The Ranch Girl's Predicament

(A/N: Here's a oneshot I've wanted to do for a while with this pairing. Enjoy. :D)

Malon wiped her sweaty brow as she finished milking the cows. It was definitely a hot, sticky day, and for an 11 year old, it was even more tiring than it was for an adult.

Malon's father was out delivering the most recent orders of Lon Lon Milk, so Malon had the whole ranch to herself and the animals…which wasn't always nice, since there were 100 times more chores to get through. Still, Malon loved the farm, and was willing to do anything for the animals.

The farm wasn't everything Malon loved, though. She obviously loved her father, and Ingo…I guess you could say she loved him too.

But there was a boy, a boy she had met in Castle Town Market on a bright, starry night. The boy had a fairy, for he had come from the woods, so Malon had given him the nickname "Fairy Boy". He didn't protest, so it stuck, although Malon found out a few days later that his name was Link.

Link and Malon got close quickly; they soon yearned each others company. Now, this was hard to make true, because Link was always out and about, roaming through dungeons and battling vicious monsters for a quest he was assigned to by Princess Zelda.

All Malon really went out for was to deliver the Lon Lon Milk, and sometimes on a rare day, her father would take her to Castle Town Market, not for a delivery but for a pleasant visit.

They would go shopping for new things to take home to the farm, although Malon refused to give up her dress that she had worn for so long.

Still, Malon wanted Link the most. She was starting to feel as though she was falling in love with him, and although she tried to fight the feeling, it was almost impossible. Everything about him she loved; his blonde hair, green tunic, dark eyes, sheepish smile, and his humble yet courageous personality.

As Malon was cooking for lunch later that day, she heard the rustling of quick footsteps, and having only one idea of who it could be, she rushed out just in time to hug Link before he made a move to knock on the door.

"Welcome, Fairy Boy," Malon squeaked in a fit of giggles. "Your hair look funny today!"

Malon curled a few of the blonde boy's strands of hair behind his ear. Link laughed, and Malon returned a smile before glaring at him.

"Where…where have you been all this time? I've been so worried!"

Link grinned and scratched the back of his head. "Uh, I've been doing the same thing for a while now…but I got all three stones Princess Zelda wanted me to get!"

Malon clapped her hands in a cheerful manner and beamed. "What are you going to do next?" she inquired.

Link shrugged. "I dunno. I'm probably gonna be around here more, so that'll be nice." Link looked down for a moment.

"Uh, Malon, do you think you could lend me your spare guest room? I've got pretty much no where else to live, and I'm pretty sure Mido doesn't want me back."
Malon was shocked at this news…and more than happy to hear it.

"Of course, Fairy Boy!" she exclaimed, and without warning she instinctively grabbed his collar and kissed him on the lips. "Welcome home," she whispered in a more calm state as she drew back.

Link stared blankly at her for a few seconds, still trying to take in what happened but failing miserably.

"Oh, and you'll be staying in my room, if you don't mind," she added, winking at him.

It was Link's turn to kiss her back.

The ranch girl no longer had a predicament; he was hers.
