Mio's Proposal

Mio and the others are in college. Mio and Azusa have been dating for four years and Mio decides to propose.

Mio Akiyama and her friends, Yui Hirasawa, Ritsu Tainaka, and Tsumugi Kotoboki, were in their last year of college. Mio's girlfriend, Azusa Nakano, was in her third year of college. The five of them were still in a band and had become quite popular.

One evening Mio and Azusa were celebrating their four year anniversary at a restaurant. Mio raise her glass of soda in the air and said, "A toast to the four best years I've had so far."

Azusa looked around the table while asking, "Where's the toast?"

Mio lightly giggled and said, "Not the edible kind of toast."

Azusa replied, "I should of known that. I've made that mistake for four anniversaries in a row."

Mio said, "It's cute everytime."

Azusa replied, "I have to be smarter."

Mio said, "Don't worry about it. You're one of the smartest students in your class."

Azusa replied, "But you're the smartest out of all of them."

Mio said, "I'm sure you'll do perfectly fine when it comes to graduating next year."

Azusa replied, "You're lucky that you get to graduate this year."

Mio held Azusa's hand and said, "There's something that I've been wanting to tell you for a while."

Azusa asked, "Is it about you seeing me with a mustache?"

Mio said, "No. Um, what mustache?"

Azusa replied, "On April's Fools day I was wearing a fake mustache. I thought it would be a funny joke, but some of the students thought I grew a real mustache. Even the principal fell for it."

Mio laughed and said, "This isn't about any fake mustaches. Because of our success in the band I've finally gotten enough money to afford a house. I don't live at the college dorm anymore."

Azusa replied, "I'm proud of you."

Mio blushed while saying, "Maybe someday soon you could move in."

Azusa replied, "We should probably wait, until we're married."

Mio said, "Fair enough."

Azusa replied, "Thank you for the offer. You're such a cutie. That reminds me of something."

Mio asked, "What is it?"

Azusa answered, "When we get married will we celebrate the anniversary on the day of the year we started dating or the day we get married?" Azusa blushed with embarrassment while saying, "We aren't even engaged so I shouldn't be bringing up a marriage. I'm sorry for making things awkward."

Mio said, "It's okay sweetie."

The next day Yui accidentally bumped into Mio in the school hallway. Mio nervously asked, "Are you okay?"

Yui smiled and said, "I'm fine. I wasn't paying attention while walking again. I was lost in thought."

Mio asked, "What were you thinking about it?"

Yui answered, "I don't know. I was thinking about something else so I forgot."

Mio replied, "Okay then."

Yui said, "By the way Ritsu was thinking about having band practice after school today."

Mio nervously replied, "I can't come to it today."

Yui asked, "Why not?"

Mio answered, "I have a personal thing to do after school."

Yui asked, "What is it?"

Mio answered, "No offense, but I want to keep it a secret."

Yui asked, "How long will it take?"

Mio said, "Less than an hour."

Yui replied, "Then we can re-schedule band practice to an hour later."

Mio said, "Okay."

A few hours later school was over for the day. Mio's friends saw Mio rushing out of the school. Ritsu asked, "Where is she headed to?"

Yui said, "I'm not sure. Mio told me pretty much nothing about it."

Tsumugi said, "Well, I'm sure that Azusa knows about it."

Azusa replied, "I know nothing about what she's doing."

Ritsu said, "She has another big secret."

Forty five minutes later Mio returned to the school. She went to the band practice room and said, "I'm sorry that I had to make us change the time of band practice."

Tsumugi responded, "Don't worry about it. It gave us a chance to a have an hour long tea break."

Yui said, "Tsumugi is the master of tea."

Tsumugi responded, "Thank you. I've been training on my tea skills with a mad guy in a hat."

Ritsu asked, "What did you do during the last hour?"

Mio felt a little nervous about the others finding out what she was up to. She answered, "I had to go shopping."

Azusa asked, "Can't we know what you got?"

Mio answered, "Not yet. It must be kept a secret, until a special time." Mio tried to change the subject by asking, "Can we start band practice now?"

Ritsu answered, "Sure."

After band practice was over Mio went to her new house and called her parents. Mio said, "Hi Mom and Dad. I have something that I need to talk to you about."

Mio's mom replied, "Okay. What's going on?"

Mio said, "I'm going to propose to Azusa."

Mio's mom replied, "That's wonderful news. You two will be an adorable married couple."

Mio's dad said, "There's a chance that Azusa will say no."

Mio's mom whispered, "Please don't ruin our daughter's big moment honey."

Mio's dad said, "I'm just preparing her for the worst."

Mio's mom said, "Forget about that. Mio, Azusa loves you with all her heart. She won't say no."

Mio asked, "Do I have your approval?"

Mio's mom said, "Of course you do and I'm sure that Azusa's parents will be happy about it too."

Mio's dad said, "I look forward to walking you down the aisle. I got new running shoes so it won't take that long."

Mio replied, "Thank you Mom and Dad. I love you. Goodbye."

After Mio finished her phone call Mio's mom asked, "What happened to our kitchen table?"

Mio's dad said, "My friends came by and accidentally broke it."

Mio's mom sighed and said, "I'm going to go make dinner."

Mio's dad replied, "But my friends stole the microwave."

The next day Mio went to band practice after school. She was several minutes early so none of the other band members were there. She opened up her backpack and started looking at the wedding ring she was planning on giving to Azusa. While Mio admired the ring Yui walked in and saw Mio. Mio's face blushed with embarrassment. Mio nervously said, "Greetings."

Yui asked, "Did you get a wedding ring?"

Mio sighed and said, "I need you to keep a secret from the others."

Yui replied, "Okay. What's going on?"

Mio said, "I'm going to propose to Azusa."

Yui replied, "That's adorable."

Mio said, "Thank you, but I can't let Azusa and the others find about this."

Yui responded, "No offense, but it seems like you aren't hiding the ring very well."

Mio said, "You're right. I should of just left at home, but a part of me felt scared that something would happen to it."

Yui asked, "Can I look at it."

Mio said, "Okay." Mio gently handed the ring to Yui.

Yui looked at it while getting her guitar ready, but she accidentally dropped the ring into the guitar. Yui nervously said, "I messed things up."

Mio asked, "What did you do?"

Yui answered, "I accidentally put the ring into my guitar and I don't know how to get it out. The guitar has an open space for the strings and I've accidentally dropped a few pieces of gum in there."

Mio was about to get stressed out, but she calmed down and said, "I can just give Azusa the ring I was going to wear."

Yui asked, "But don't you both need rings?"

Mio said, "The only thing I need is to spend the rest of my life with her."

Yui replied, "Aww. You are going to be such a cute married couple."

Principal Weinrib walked in and asked, "What's up?"

Mio whispered, "Can you keep a secret?"

Principal Weinrib said, "Of course."

Yui said, "Mio's going to propose to Azusa."

Principal Weinrib replied, "That's the mustache girl."

Mio said, "She was wearing a fake mustache."

Yui replied, "Not true."

Mio said, "I heard a rumor that you have a marriage license."

Principal Weinrib replied, "That's true. I've been the minister at a few weddings recently so I'll host yours for a mildly fair price."

Mio responded, "Thank you."

After Mio and the others finished up band practice Mio walked up to Azusa and asked, "Can we go out?"

Azusa said, "I was just planning on having a normal evening at my dorm."

Mio smiled and said, "I wanna give you a special night."

Azusa replied, "Okay."

Mio and Azusa went to a nearby fast food place. After ordering Mio and Azusa sat down at one of the tables. Mio said, "You look beautiful today."

Azusa replied, "I don't like any different. I haven't brushed my hair in a few days."

Mio said, "Your outfit's really nice."

Azusa replied, "We're both wearing the same school uniform."

Mio said, "Um, your nail polish is pretty."

Azusa replied, "Most of it has been washed off. You've been acting a little odd recently sweetheart."

Mio asked, "What do you mean?"

Azusa said, "Yesterday you randomly delayed band practice for some mysterious purchase. Plus today's the first time you've asked me on a date without asking a few days in advance and just now you were given me weird compliments."

Mio replied, "I'm sorry."

Azusa said, "You don't need to be sorry. I'm just a little confused and I have a feeling you're hiding something."

Mio nervously responded, "I have a secret."

Azusa held Mio's hand and said, "You don't have to ever hide anything from me. You've been the love of my life for a long time."

Mio replied, "I'm going to tell you." Mio got down on the ground.

Azusa asked, "Um sweetie, why are you sitting on this restaurant's gross floor?" The janitor shook his fist at Azusa.

Mio held Azusa's hand and asked, "Azusa, will you marry me?" Azusa gasped while Mio presented the ring to her.

Azusa jumped onto the table and screamed, "Yes!" The customers stared at her while looking confused. Azusa blushed with embarrassment and said, "My girlfriend just proposed to me. I said yes." The customers clapped.

Mio said, "I have another question to ask you Azusa."

Azusa replied, "No need for anything else Mio. Despite how amazing you are there's no way that you could make this day better."

Mio asked, "Will you move in with me this weekend?"

Azusa got off the table and hugged Mio. Azusa said, "Yes!" The customers clapped.

Mio said, "This is the happiest that I've been in a long time."

Azusa replied, "Well, this is the happiest day that I've ever had." Azusa kissed Mio.

The next day Mio and Azusa couldn't stop smiling and holding hands with each other. Ritsu asked, "What's going on with you lovebirds?"

Mio said, "Azusa and I got engaged."

Ritsu and Tsumugi were glad to see Mio and Azusa be happier than they had ever been before. Mio said, "I know this is surprising news."

Ritsu replied, "Yeah right."

Mio said, "Huh?"

Tsumugi said, "It's been obvious that you two have been wanting to get married since shortly after you started dating."

Azusa said, "I've been ready for Mio to propose for four years, but she and I both knew that we wanted to wait."

Ristu said, "Congrats to both of you. Can I be the best man?"

Mio replied, "But you're a woman."

Ritsu said, "Well, isn't it time that the best man term gets renamed to best person?"

Mio replied, "Okay. We'd be honored to have you as the best person."

Ritsu asked, "Do you want me to hold onto the rings?"

Azusa said, "You can keep track of mine."

Mio said, "My wedding ring is in Yui's guitar."

Yui jokingly said, "Now I can get married to my guitar."

Mio asked, "Can me and Azusa leave early?"

Ritsu said, "Sure."

Mio and Azusa started walking out. Azusa asked, "What's going on future wife?"

Mio said, "I wanna show you something." Mio and Azusa walked outside. Mio showed Azusa the beautiful sunset. Mio said, "As a young girl I would sit on the grass and stare at sunsets for several minutes. I used to think that there was nothing more beautiful than that. However your beauty outranks it everytime now."

Azusa blushed and said, "You're geeky in the most darling way possible." Azusa kissed Mio.

Mio started laying down on the grass. Azusa laid down next to her and they stared at the sunset together. They held hands, kissed, and made corny jokes for hours. It was the best time that they had ever had and they knew that after they got married their days would get even better than that.
