Blue Phantom

Part 1

Chapter 1

"ADAM!!" shouted a tall man, dressed head to toe in camo, far off in the distance.

"Yeah?" replied Adam. There was no answer. "What is it, Matt?"

Still there was no reply. Adam slowly pushed his way through the dense brush, sticker bushes catching on him and forcing him into a crawling speed. He wasn't that worried about Matt anyways. They had done boy scouts together as kids, and he had lost to Matt in just about every survival competition. Whatever trouble Matt had gotten himself into, he could probably get out of it. Still, he had never heard him scream that way. "MATT!" he yelled. "Where are you?" This time, the lack of reply caused him to panic, and he began to run. The toe of his hunting boot caught on a fallen log, slick with fungi. He flew forwards and hit the ground with a thud! then rolled down a steep hill. Roots, twigs, and other debris bruised him on his descent. When he finally stopped moving, he stood up again, his body screaming in agony. Looking up, he saw a grassy clearing. In the distance, there appeared to be a body, writhing in pain on the dusty earth. "Holy crap!!" Adam said under his breath. "MATT!" he screamed, "Matt!! Is that you?" He didn't wait for a reply, and began to sprint towards it. He dropped to his knees next to Matt's twisted body. He had stopped spasming, but his skin had taken on a ghostly blue tinge, and his eyes had rolled back in his head. Adam took his pulse. It was weak, and slow, so achingly slow. "Matt? What happened? Are you there?"

"Uhhhhgggg…."moaned Matt, only half-conscious, "blue….it came…so scared….get out while you can…"

"No Matt!" sobbed Adam, fanning the sweat off his buddy's face. "I won't leave you here!"

"It's… It's too late. Run!" Matt said breathlessly, closing his eyes. Adam took his pulse a second time. Nothing.

He bent over the cadaver. "NOOOOOOOOO!!" he screamed into the silent void, for no one could hear him that deep in the Silverpine woods. "Damnit! Matt, you were my only friend! God-damnit, what am I supposed to do without you?"

Suddenly the wind, which had been howling relentlessly, hushed. Every hair on Adam's back stood up. A chill fell over him, giving him monster goose bumps. The sun seemed to have been replaced with an icy moon, radiating freezing light.

A voice entered his head. "Runnn…." it said. Adam screamed in terror, for it was Adam's voice he had heard. He stood up quickly and ran for his life, not stopping until he reached his beat-up green pickup outside the forest. He drove until his gas tank let out, in a prospering town about 25 miles away, called Sharpzvil.

"What the hell are you doing?" an overweight police officer yelled at him. "Speeding through here like your some kind of race car driver, stopping in the middle of a busy intersection…"

A sudden unknown rage built up within Adam. He pushed the police officer to the ground, put his arms around his neck, and began to strangle him. The officer pulled his gun from his belt, aimed and fired. BAM!! The bullet pierced Adam's stomach nanoseconds later. Blood began to pour out of his mouth.

"Uhhhggg…" he groaned as he fell on to the ground, clutching his stomach. The police officer tranquilized him. That officer got one good look at Adam's eyes before they fell shut from the tranquilizer's effects. They were wild, hungry, and a dark menacing blue.
