A/N: Basically I got inspired. No real reason. Johnny was annoying near the end, but eh…his death was basically a juvenile way to end his character. Oh well, enjoy and review! Thanks :)

Summary: The letter to Johnny from Marissa, and Johnny's reaction while reading it. One shot.

The Letter

By Justlikeyou

Dear Johnny,

Everything's been so complicated for the last few days, what with our growing relationship and Ryan and mine's drifting one. Today both of you made me decide, made me think of what I wanted. For a minute, I did convince myself that I had some estranged feelings for the both of you. You were my first real friend at Newport Union—it was like you actually got me in a way that Ryan couldn't ever get me. You helped me find my way so to speak, and for that I will always thank you. Maybe that's why I felt like I needed to help you in the best way I could…even if you did tell me to stay away. There was something about you that I saw…something I liked, not loved. I'm sorry, Johnny. I honestly hope that you do find someone who yearns for you the way you long for me.

Sincerely,

Marissa

As Johnny read the letter of the supposed girl he had fallen so hard for, hot tears began to form and his throat seemed to choke him. He furiously wiped his tears away, a slight pang in his chest as he did so. How could Marissa do this to him? If it wasn't for her coming to Newport Union, he would still be with Casey…he would still be surfing.

He mentally cursed himself for thinking about Marissa as a bad thing, when in turn—he loved her more than life itself. Surfing was his one solid escape from reality, but Marissa had somehow found a way to make her his escape. The way she made him feel, it was genuine. It was…real.

The letter lay gently opened on his lap, as he looked down at it with repulsion. He read the words over and over again, hoping for them to somehow show him a secret message, something that proved that she actually did love him. He desperately wished for it to reform and take shape as a love note of sweet nothings--Marissa confessing her undeniable love for him. But in his heart, he knew it was over. He was over.

He had to do something quick, painless. Something to ease his now throbbing head. Slipping on one of his signature skater hoodies, he headed over to the resident of the Coopers, to be greeted with Kaitlin and a bottle of Jack Daniels.
