Disclaimer: I do not own Warhammer 40,000 or any of its characters, terms, etc. It all belongs to Games Workshop.
This is a little one shot. Also, I am not too familiar with 40k so don't bash me about that.
"Humanity has always looked skyward for its true path."
"We stood at the edge of destruction, and would of fallen, if not for the might of the God Emperor and his Angels of Death."
"Forged in blood, tempered in battle, we are the living weapons of humanity."
"The Space Marines."
"That's how it was supposed to go. But there wasn't enough Space Marines to go around and be the sole defenders of humanity, especially in this dark age. So humanity has to fend for itself," the guardsman thought,"but it actually goes like this."
"Humanity has always looked skyward for its true path."
"We stood at the edge of destruction, and had fallen, despite the non-existant might of the God Emperor and his Cannon Fodder.
"Forged in blood, tempered in battle, we are the living shields of humanity."
"The Imperial Guard."
Suddenly the guardsman was snapped out of his thought when one of his fellow guardsmen tapped him on the soldier and motioned toward a horde of Orks moving toward them. So apparently he had been thinking so deeply that orders were given and they were going to battle but he hadn't noticed.
But they were wrong tool for the job. The Orks started to close for melee while yelling their general battle cries.
The guardsman took aim, shot an Ork straight in the head, but it kept charging.
Then his lasgun, which had no moving parts, somehow jammed.
But the commissar there took it upon himself to inspire his men, shooting a hapless guardsman while running toward the Orks shouting,"For the Emperor, do not falter!"
The guardsman then decided to charge the Ork running at him with his bayonet, filled with hope by the commissar's demonstration.
He got close to the Ork, but that also meant he was finally in chopping distance of the Ork's choppa, and then it swung its choppa, chopping the guardsman into a chopped mass of chopped meat.
Several months later the entire planet was overrun by green; the Imperial Guard, PDF, and Adeptus Mechanicus forces stationed there had only slowed them down.
