Just a super short one-shot, an attempt to revive my muse :) I own nothing except Marquis!
Another sleepless night, he rolled amongst the cool satin of his nesting, alone and restless. Mistoffelees leaned back against his pillows and sighed, placing his hands behind his head, so this was what it was like to be alone, he had been so accustomed to sharing his bed with Victoria that he had forgotten what it was like to be apart from her. Even if it were for only a few moments. She had been gone for the past couple of hours now, and Misto had soon found himself unable to sleep alone. He sat up and groomed himself to try and relax, pushing and pulling at the blankets around him, he nuzzles against his mate's pillow and sighed. His ears flicked back and he closed his bi-coloured eyes. He rolled back onto his back, loneliness surrounding him. His soft breaths were all he could hear before soft padding, that of paws, could be heard from the other side of the den.
Mistoffelees shrunk back slightly, biting his black lip gently. He smiled when his mate entered, cradling a sleeping kitten to her chest. Victoria smiled and placed a finger to her lips to ensure he remained quiet. She laid the young silver tabby queen kit in a cot and covered her gently in swaddling. She then crawled into bed beside her mate, she gazed up at his ivory face in the dim light and whispered quietly.
"Are you alright, love? You look rather distressed."
The tuxedo nodded, wrapping his arms around her waist and drawing her closer, his grip tighter than usual.
"What kept you so long?" He mewed quietly, looking down at her.
"Marquis was sick after I fed her, so I took her to Jenny, I didn't want to worry you,"
"You didn't. . . You just made me remember what it is like to sleep alone, another sleepless night, but for the best of reasons." He kissed her nose and looked over at the smaller nest Marquis lay curled up in. This was his family, and he was more than willing to spend an eternity of sleepless nights protecting and caring for them if it meant they were safe and happy.
