Superpowers- A term used for the worlds strongest nations.

Free enterprise- the economic system of private ownership of land and businesses. " it allows the people to make own their decisions"

United Nations- An organization founded in 1945 whose members include most of world's nations.

NATO- the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, military alliance formed in 1949. " by nations in western Europe and North America"

Cold War- A term used for the battle of words and ideas that developed between the democratic nations of the west and the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe from about 1945 to 1990.

Warsaw Pact- A military alliance formed in 1955 by the Soviet Union and seven eastern European nations.

Korean War- A war fought between communist North Korea, aided by China, and South Korea, aided by United Nations members, during 1950- 1953.

nuclear arms race- the Cold War competition between superpowers to develop more powerful and greater numbers of nuclear weapons.

Castro, Fidel- A.D 1926 - Cuban revolutionary leader; premier of Cuba since 1959.

Khrushchev, Nikita- A.D. 1894-1971 Secretary general of the Soviet Communist Party from 1958 to 1964.

Kennedy, John F.- A.D. 1917-1963 the 35TH president of the United States from 1961 to 1963. He successfully negotiated the removal of Soviet nuclear missiles from Cuba.

Yalta- A resort city in Ukraine; site of meeting between Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin in 1945.

Berlin- The capital of Germany. Divided from 1945 to 1990 into West Berlin and East Berlin.
