Author Note: I wrote this about a year ago, during a writing exercise, so it's not perfect. I left it as is, besides for some spelling and grammar fixes. This drabble assumes that Mike and Lennie were in a relationship when Lennie got sick. Enjoy!

The first thing Mike noticed when he entered the apartment, was how nothing had changed.

He had expected to walk in and immediately feel an emptiness, as if only half of what made the place home was there.

But no.

It was only an apartment.

'Without Lennie.'

Mike walked into the bedroom, and pulled a suitcase out from under the bed. He yanked open the closet and mechanically began to pack clothes into it.

It wasn't the place that made him feel at home.

It was the person.

Mike zipped the suitcase shut, and pulled it off of the bed. He made for the door, pausing only to glance at a picture laying haphazardly on the nightstand. He picked it up and smiled.

It had been taken only days ago, down by the docks. Lennie had been in a bad mood all day, and Mike had tried to cheer him up. His last attempt had been caught on camera.

In the picture, Lennie was scowling, but the beginnings of a smile could be seen. Mike was leaning towards him, smirking and whispering something in his ear.

Mike smiled again, and quietly pocketed the photo. With a sigh, He slipped out of the bedroom, unsure of when he would return, and to be honest, he really didn't care.

This place wasn't his home. Not anymore.

He slammed the door shut.

For however long was necessary, Home would be New York Mercy Hospital, Floor Three, Room 351.
