Christmas Magic
By Alasse Fefalas
"Hey, look! The first snowfall for this year! And we're just two days away from Christmas!" Rick exclaimed, his face plastered against the window to look at the white dust falling outside.
The loud scrape of a chair against the floor echoed through the house, followed by the pitter patter of small feet. "Where daddy? Where? I wanna see!" A young, brown haired girl wearing her pyjamas shrieked with excitement, jumping up and down beside her father to try and see the street below.
Laughing, Rick grabbed her and sat her down on his thigh. "They're so pretty," she whispered.
"Just like my little princess," Kate said from behind the two of them. She had been watching them from her favourite chair where she had been reading before she was distracted by the other two. "Okay, Jo, time to sleep. It's way past your bedtime, and don't think I didn't realize."
"Aww..." Jo pouted, giving her father a quick hug and jumped off his lap. Slipping one hand into her father's and the other into her mother's, the three of them walked to her bedroom. Slipping under the covers, she whined, "But I don't wanna go to sleep..."
"If you don't, you'll be too sleepy for school tomorrow, darling," Kate chided her child gently as she stroked her hair.
"I don't wanna go to school tomorrow..."
"You can't be lazy, little missy. Lazy children don't get gifts from Santa," Rick said from the threshold of the room.
"But I don't wanna go to school, mommy! The other kids always make fun of me whenever I talk about Santa. They said I'm stupid because Santa doesn't exist!" Jo cried, tears brimming from her bright blue eyes.
Kate gave her daughter a wry smile and pulled her into a hug. "Johanna Castle, you listen me. You are not stupid okay? You're the smartest five year old I know," Kate said, stroking the back of her daughter's head to comfort her. "Besides," Kate continued, pulling away to wipe the tears off Jo's face. "Someone once told me that people who don't believe in the possibility of magic will never find it, and that life without hope is very sad."
"Mommy?"
"Yes, dear?"
"Do you believe in magic?" Jo asked, looking at her mother.
Kate glanced at her husband who was leaning against the door frame, watching the two of them, and smiled. "Yes, dear. I do."
Kate placed a light kiss on her daughter's forehead and gently guided her back under the covers. "Sleep well, darling. Dream of Santa and magic."
"Night, mommy. Night, daddy," Jo said sleepily, tired out from crying.
"Good night, angel," Kate whispered, kissing her daughter's forehead once more.
Quietly, she stood up walked out of the room, leaving a small gap at the door for light to stream in.
"I wonder who said that to you," Rick teased as he snaked a hand around her waist.
"Hmmm. I don't remember," Kate grinned hooking her arms behind his neck.
"I love you," Castle whispered into her ear. "More than I ever had loved you before."
"I love you too. You, Jo, and Alexis are my magic, and nothing can take me away from that," Kate smiled.
A/N: Sorry for the slight OOC, but that's how my brain sees mommy!Kate. It wasn't as fluffy as I thought it would come out to be. I can't write fluffy, I'm sorry! I tried! I hope it was enjoyable though! I wrote this because someone asked for it on Tumblr and this just came to mind. Reviews are much appreciated! Thanks for reading!
