Okay, Macchi found this when searching through her old school assignments. It's something I had to write and then recite for Performing Arts. I had a fun time with it (even though I got a 98 cuz of TWO LITTLE SYNONYMS!) and I hope you enjoy it! R&R!
Luke's Letter
Having recently moved away from my friend in London, we would often send letters back and forth to each other. In a few of his letters, he would tell me of the fantastic adventures he and his mentor had recently embarked upon. This is not my story, it is his, and only but one of them.
One day, I received a letter postmarked from London and sealed with blue wax. Recognizing the symbol pressed into the wax, I carefully pried off the seal, intact, and placed it in my treasure chest. Having done so, I turned my attention back to the letter; then opened it. I smiled in anticipation as the familiar writing greeted me.
My dear friend, it read, I am very glad to hear that you are doing well in your new home. Here in London, the Professor and I have been doing quite well ourselves. Now what I am about to tell you, you must never sleep of, for fear that you would be written off as a lunatic and shunned from society.
After reading the phrase that my friend always teasingly used before telling me of his latest escapade, I read on. Through his letter, I saw the constant thrill of his journeys and accomplishments, the horror of a betrayal, and the triumph upon their safe return home. I began to read slowly as I neared the end of his letter.
However, I am sorry to say that I will be leaving the Professor and my dear London. On a lighter note, I will be leaving on a ship to come over to America. I hope we will meet again soon.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I thought of the same pain I had felt when I had left London, for he would experience it soon. I placed his final letter in my treasure chest and began to make preparations to greet my friend.
