Posted in response to this prompt on the Durarara! Kinkmeme Part XI:

"When life gives agony, Don't ever cry.

As long as I'm right here, You won't need to try.

The isle's where I'm always waiting for you. Out near the front, so no one's stealing the view.

But there's always conflict among all the peace. incident It's how the world, goes around in a cycle of greed.

All of that love, with all of the hate. And all the no-good lies that they all create

...you face it all the same.

But tragedy, always seemed to rule the fight. Reality, always had to roll the die. And I, I didn't want to see you, remain abandoned, forever..."

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

No...

The single word stabbed sharply through the red haze of his mind; as crystal clear amidst the all consuming fury as the icy blue eyes straight into his own. Time seemed to come to a standstill. Sapphire eyes widened in surprise so misplaced that under other circumstances he would have found it disconcerting as his knuckles made impact with her ribs; the snap of shattering bones sickeningly loud when his body refused to comply to his frantic orders to stop, to fucking stop before it was too late..

And then everything sped up.

Shizuo staggered back a step as his Kouhai slumped to the floor limply, her limbs outspread at almost unnatural angles and her pale blonde hair splayed around her face reminding him almost of some gruesome halo - as if the Gods above had chose this moment to make a mockery of him.

No... This couldn't be happening...

The scene seemed distant, almost as if he were disconnected from his body somehow. Something he had longed for for so long, how cruel that his wish would finally be granted only after the worst of his fears had come true.

He shook his head to try to clear the last of the fog clouding his mind. Tom was kneeling by Vorona's side, phone in hand as he spoke down it in an urgent tone of voice. That was a good thing. Tom would take care of it. Tom would make sure that nothing would happen to her, that nothing Shizuo had done was going to affect them, that everything was going to be okay and they would continue as they always had and that Shizuo had to be over-reacting because that's what he always did and - "Shizuo! Shizuo! Snap out of it!"

He hadn't noticed he had been backing away until the cold metal of the railing brushed against his vest and his hands gripped at the for support, knuckles turning white as the metal bent in his grasp. Nor had he noticed when that single word had ceased to exist only in his mind and had escaped his lips, changing into a frantic mantra as he shook his head back and forth, refusing to believe what could only be impossible.

A pair of hands gripped at his shoulders, reflexively his eyes darted up to the source, the adrenaline still coursing through his blood urging him to grab the owner by the throat and shove him against the nearest wall.

Recognition struck home as his sluggish brain registered the person to be Tom, his tense muscles relaxing a he sagged limply in his friends grip. The thoughts whirled around furiously in his head as he tried frantically to grasp at them, to piece together a conclusion that made more sense than the one he had seen with his own eyes.

Everything felt numb.

He became aware that his fiend was saying something but the meaning of the words escaped him, falling upon his ears vague and distorted. The world started to blur and sway at a frightening pace as a light feeling washed over him, causing his head to spin. He rose a hand to his head, feeling a wave of nausea hit him like an iron bar.

"Tom, I -"

His lips tried to form the warning, succeeding in getting two words out before darkness closed in on him like a blanket, pulling him into a nothingness that held much more appeal than the real world did.
