I just couldn't help myself.
When I saw it, I just had to have it for a day like today.
Tom's having a lie-in, and for once Hal isn't up at the crack of dawn, either, so it's perfect.
I hit play and wait.
It doesn't take long for the boys to come tumbling down the stairs.
And when they slide into the kitchen, my preparation works. I actually pull it off.
I hear them bang open the door, and I just keep cracking eggs like everything's normal. I slowly turn around and give them a look I perfected with my brothers, like they're the crazy ones for barging in like that.
They stare at me, all wide-eyed and disbelieving, and somehow, I still manage not to laugh.
I keep a straight face while It's Raining Men blares from the stereo.
When neither one of them says anything, I just smile at them.
"What?" I ask. "Too soon?"
It takes Tom a minute, but then he laughs. It's a big belly laugh, and I join in. That alone makes the money I paid for the CD worth it.
But the look Hal gives me?
Oh, but that makes it priceless.
