If you need someone to talk to at school and want to get back on track toward graduating with your class, then pay a visit to your counselor who is available to help you lead you lead in the right direction.
Part of the counselors job is to aid students to be on track toward graduating with their class. Counselors are available before school and after school, during lunch or with an appointment. Parents, students, and the general public ask what is it that school counselors do on a daily basis? They do not make schedule changes for students who want to drop a class or meet with students who are having problems with their classes. School counselors are members of the education team at school, who ensure students to become more productive and help them in all areas of academic achievement. School counselors do not hand out college applications but they do make students aware of deadlines. They conduct four year planning with students to get them on track toward their career. They also meet with juniors and seniors for the their grade evaluations.
With the state budget cuts, counselors want to students to be more proactive and take action for themselves, in time it is not going to be as easy to meet with your counselors, each counselor is responsible for over 700 students apiece. Counselors also meet with students on their third tardy and do parent teacher conferences. They deal with all parts of the educational program planning as well as having crisis interventions. The counselors also have drug and alcohol counseling as well as suspension conference and they meet with students who are low on credits.
The school counselors know how to listen, help students with life changes and help them cope with them in the best way. Your school counselor is available for you and wants to make your school experience the best it can be. The counselor's job is to take your problem seriously and help you find the best solution with guidance lessons and academic, social and career counseling.
There are six counselors at the guidance office, with Mr. Estes and Mrs. Rodriguez being the lead counselors. Each counselor is assigned to a grade level with larger classes being split between two counselors. Mr. Estes is the senior counselor for the last names beginning with A-L while Mrs. Rodriguez has the last names beginning with M-Z. Ms. Aguirre is the junior class counselor and Ms. McCoy is the sophomore class counselor. Mr. Marquez and Ms. Arauz-Castillo share the freshman class. Mr. Marquez has students with the last names of the letters A-F and Ms. Arauz Castillo has those students with the last names G-Z.
