Sitting in his sentry station,
The skeleton waited for the child to come through.
A promise he made, he planned to keep,
To an unseen friend beyond the door.
His jokes made the child laugh, but
His brother didn't think the same
Of his antics and humor.
From afar he watched the child
As they made their way through the underground.
They gave mercy to all who engaged them.
But the skeleton knew what they could do.
The child held the power to undo all that'd been done
But not once had they used it.
The child could destroy all of the people in the underground.
But they did not.
The skeleton reached out to them,
Made them his friend.
He watched as they did good through his world.
But he thought is was for nothing.
The child could reset their own good deeds.
But yet, they did not.
They refused to harm a single soul.
The skeleton waited for them
In the judgement hall
Calmly and quietly
He stood before them.
He judged with fairness everything they did
They had not gained LOVE,
But they had gained love.
It was clear they were very determined
Maybe they'd be the one to set them free.
In the final room
Where they'd battle the king
They all gathered together
All of the friends the child made
And tried to make the king and the small child
Become friends as well.
The flower came bringing a flash of light.
No one was sure what came next
But the child's determination brought them through.
The skeleton was happy.
He'd finally met the one he'd made a promise to.
She cared so much
About someone so small yet so powerful
And that someone had set them free.
Maybe now that the child was happy
A family and a world of friends
Maybe the skeleton would no longer have to think
That the world would one day simply
Reset and start over again.
