"How do you do it?"
"Do what?"

"This job?"

"Same way anyone does a disagreeable job," a grin pops out across his handsome face. "I grin and bear it and have amazing sex with incredibly gorgeous creatures."

"I'm serious, Harkness," Dawn Summers groans, throwing a pillow at him from one of the couches.

"So am I, sweetness," Jack chuckles.

"And when you lose people?"

Jack lowers his head, thinking of Suzy, Owen, and Toshiko. Thinking of Rose and the Doctor - both regenerations of him. Thinking of his brother.

"Same as you, I suppose. I carry on and hope for better. Save the world and try and be as happy as possible. I don't - I can't dwell on the bad stuff for too long."

"How'd you get so smart, Harkness?" Dawn sighed, leaning against him.

"Helps to be nearly immortal and good looking."

"Hmm."
