The bunker still smelled of Castiel, even after he had been gone for three weeks. Dean was reminded of Castiel's leaving by almost everything in the bunker. The smell of honey and tea and lilac and smoke. Everything smelled of Castiel. The dirty old trenchcoat that was still on the coat hook smelled of Castiel. Dean's pillow smelled of Castiel. Even the bunker's kitchen smelled of Castiel.

Sam would say that Dean was moping, but Dean himself would probably prefer the word mourning lost opportunities. Dean had paced the bunker, muttering to himself: "It's okay. He will be back. He promised." A day later, he was punching the bunker walls, screaming. "Why did you leave me. That is the worst thing you could do to me."

Everything in the bunker looked the same. The unwashed dishes in the sink. The pile of dirty shirts on the bathroom floor. The open book on the table. The smashed mug on the ground from when Sam had heard. The gold band ready in the black box in Dean's room. The charcoaled wings on the floor of the garage. But the bunker seemed empty. No longer was there the sound of wings at all hours of the night. No longer were there the naive questions asked at the dinner table. No longer was there the pop culture refrences that were never understood.

Sam hated the silence. Dean had never been so quiet. There hadn't been the familiar rumble of the impala in days. There had not been the laugh at the ignorance. Dean had never been so quiet.

One day, Dean heard the doorbell ring. Sam was on a hunt, so he thought it might be him, he had forgotten the keys, so maybe it was him. He slowly ambled to the door, and even more slowly opened it.

The scent of honey and tea and lilac and smoke permeated the air once again. A man with some stubble and a red hoodie was at the door. A single word was spoken:

"Cas?"
