Yeah... I know it's short and all, but it's a prologue, so I wanted it to be that way! The other chapters are much, much longer. I hope you enjoy my first fanfic!

Prologue

It was a rainy night in the Everfree. Something everyone had gotten used to. The clouds here moved on their own, without the aid of a pegasus, defying the known characteristics of normal clouds. Along with that, they will rain when they feel like raining, or simply sit when they feel like sitting. It's like these clouds came from another world.

Discord was stretched out on a canopy of large leaves, staring at the flat, grey clouds above. Normally, the leaves wouldn't be strong enough to support his weight, but Discord didn't care. Physics never meant anything to him… and never will. He was simply enjoying himself in a place where the environment seemed to act… naturally.

Everything looked normal for this place. His arms were crossed behind his head, his eyes were closed, and he had a simple smile spread across his face. Suddenly, his ears twitched and perked up, picking up something unlike the Everfree. He stretched his back out and sat up slowly, turning his head to the direction of the Everfree Ruins. "I wonder what that was…"

Deciding to investigate, Discord slipped beneath the leaves he was resting on and made his way down around the trunk of a tree. In a few seconds he was on the ground, and crouched low, he slithered through the darkness, weaving in between and around trees. He knew that he was being watched by hundreds of creatures hiding in the darkness, but they wouldn't dare tangle with him. The Everfree knew who Discord was.

After just a couple of minutes moving through the trees, he came to a clearing that led to the ruins. Instead of waltzing out into the open, he fought the urge and stayed hidden, trying to focus on the ruins through the rain. His eyes could make out the old, crumbling tower just over the rope bridge. Though the rain made it tough, he swore he saw a familiar silhouette disappear inside the tower's entrance. He shook his head, checking if there was anything left or right of the clearing. "Oh my… Was that what I think it was…?"

He waited a bit before emerging from the treeline, happily dancing towards the bridge. The clearing was littered with small flowers of many colors, all being beaten down by the ongoing precipitation.

Discord's "dancing" was halted when he came to the edge of a ravine. He peered over the edge to see a shallow river at the bottom flowing leftward. The rope bridge that was supposed to provide safe passage across the ravine was hanging by one end. In other words, it was completely collapsed. "It wasn't like that earlier…" Perhaps whatever that silhouette was collapsed the bridge.

This wasn't a problem, however, for the mighty Discord. He hummed a song of mixed and random tunes as he elegantly leaped across the ravine, landing lightly on the other side with a "tap," which blended in with the patter of the rain. His humming ceased on approach to the tower, for he did not want to lose the element of surprise… if it were to come to that.

Effortlessly, Discord spiraled up the tower until he was at the throne room's window, and after a second or two of contemplating, he eventually peeked over the windowsill to see what was going on. It took him a little bit of time to comprehend what he was seeing, but when he realized what it was, he smirked deviously. In the room was a figure floating in the air, surrounded by a turquoise aura. Discord didn't believe it at first, but the figure had the shape of a human. Two things made him question himself. First, humans haven't existed here for a thousand years. Second, if it were a human, what was this… metallic shell it seemed to be wearing?

But that turquoise aura… He has seen it before. The "human" was being held in the air through the magic of some unicorn. But who? As if on cue, the magic user stepped from the shadows of the throne room. Her coat was pitch black. The cutie mark depicted a crescent moon, surrounded by purple coloring. She was an alicorn. And there was no way she was alive. But here she was. Discord held back an excited laugh. 'Nightmare Moon.'

They were talking. He almost exploded with excitement when he heard those words.

"... Okay okay I get it. Anyway… Are you human?"

"Uh… Yeah."
