Author's Note: Wow... I haven't been here in a long time, have I? Hopefully, that'll change now – but I do apologise for my lack of updates. I don't know that I'll be able to update any of my current WIPs, but I have a few more in the works – and this time, I'm gonna try and finish the whole thing before I start posting. Sorry!

She was gone.

Jack stared at his empty arms, and – to his horror – found that there were tears pricking out of his eyes. He wanted to wipe them away, but felt reluctant to move his hands just yet. He could almost still feel Carly in his embrace.

Of course, that was just his wishful thinking. But surely he was allowed to grieve for her for a few moments. If he'd had his way, they would have died together. But once again, Carly had proved herself to be both strong and resourceful. He still didn't know how she'd become a Dark Signer – if he was responsible for it as she'd claimed – but he hoped that she was now free of their control.

"Stupid girl," Jack whispered, finally lowering his arms. "Why did you have to play that trap? Why couldn't you let us be together?" He didn't care about destiny; he didn't care about the crimson dragon.

But it wasn't in him to just lie down and give up. And he had to keep on fighting – for Carly's sake.

Slowly, Jack picked up her broken glasses. He slipped them into his pocket, and wiped at his eyes before lifting his head up and addressing Carly. Wherever she was now, he hoped that she was able to hear him.

"I love you, Carly."

She'd managed to worm her way into his heart. All he could do was hope that they'd be able to see each other again; and carry on fighting until that day came.
