A Visitor

Gabe is sitting in front of his dad, watching him, trying to figure out if he can see his son. When a look of shock and horror crosses Dan's face, Gabe knows he can be seen. He just wishes that his dad would wear a different, happier expression while seeing his son.

"Hi, Dad," Gabe begins. Saying the words make this seem more real. He used to only have one family member—his mom—who could hear him, talk to him, but now he has a dad, too.

"What are you doing here?" Dan asks, absolutely terrified. "You're dead. You shouldn't be here. I'm not crazy."

Gabe shakes his head. "No, you're not crazy. You're my dad, why should I stay away from you?" Dan doesn't look any less terrified with this explanation, so Gabe finishes his visit with, "I just wanted to tell you…happy Father's Day."
