A God's Power
written by me, taking place after the ending of the anime Death Note*
With an emotion that Ryuk could not place, (a sort of mix between pity, sadness, and excitement), the Shinigami closed the death note without taking his eyes off of the name Raito Yagami for as long as the quick second would allow.
The Shinigami stood, produced its wings, and flew off, intent on finding the biggest burlap sack possible to carry as many apples from the human Realm back to the Shinigami Realm.
Along this flight, Ryuk thought to himself about the events of the past 6 years. How he had met Raito. How Raito had managed to intrigue him at every turn. How indignantly Raito had just died, as an animal cornered, much like a possum baring his teeth and drooling, looking as crazy as anyone could.
"It was very uncharacteristic for him to nearly die in that fashion." Ryuk thought "I figured he would have accepted his capture, and thought his way through his endeavour, just as he always did. Oh well, at least I saved him of execution or a boring court date."
"So," thought Nate River, better known as N, "Raito... no, Kira, is dead. Can you tell me, Mr. Aizawa, what it looks like he died from?" Aizawa replies, "It looks as though he died from gunshot wounds". "but there's something... more about it. I can feel it.." thought Aizawa.
"Mr. Aizawa." Matsuda says, head hanging from shame as he had nearly executed Raito while he was down. Everyone but N turns their attention to Matsuda. "There's something more, isn't there? You looked unsure of yourself just now". "I-I didnt want to say anything," Aizawa says, "because it's just a feeling however, I feel that this was too easy..." N looks to Aizawa, and says "That was 99.99 percent the real Kira. I don't say 100 percent because it's always possible, in its most minute chance, the Raito Yagami was not Kira."
The two groups, unbenounced to each other, gave a shudder at the same time. "In the event," N says, "that Raito was not the last Death Note user, I ask you all to keep a sharp eye out for any killings that may be Death Note related. Further more, we will disband our groups and work on different cases so that we won't dissuade anybody from using a Death Note."
The Japanese team gasps, and Mogi replies angrily, "What is it with you and Ryuzaki, both ready to let people die so easily? its not right". N says calmy "until killings begin, there is no reason to believe that another Kira, lets call him or her Michi, even exists. It could be that these Death Notes that have popped up were just flukes, that they were lost by Shinigami, or they could have been dropped on purpose. Either way, the killings must begin again in order for there to be any purpose to our continuing to work together as we have. Just remember to keep an eye out".
N stands up. "We will not tell the world of Kira's death. I will instruct governments of the world to keep quiet of Kira's death and to also scan their death records from now on just in case a new Death Note crops up. Each month we will all meet up in the Tofu Temple in Shoraian, Kyoto". With that, N and his now-disbanded group head for the door.
At the door, N turns to the Japanese team and says "Good luck, and may we never have anything to report". With that, N and his group leave and split up, the Japanese team follows suit.
