And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

So Death had brought Bobby's wife back to "persuade" him helping the Winchesters was a bad idea.

Forced their old friend to go through the anguish of killing the woman he loved for a second time, or face being ripped to shreds when she succumbed to the inevitable terrible hunger of the zombie-undead.

Grim-faced, the brothers stood either side of Bobby's wheelchair like an honour guard, flanking their surrogate father as he sat slumped, sadly diminished. Stared unseeing into the crackling flames of Karen's second pyre.

As far as Dean was concerned, this was just another nail in Death's coffin.
