See You Again

Emma had just finished getting her things together when there was a knock on the door. All she had to do was peak at the clock to know who it was. Twelve on the dot. Gold was ready to go.

David pulled Gold aside and Emma used the extra seconds to double-check her pockets. Cell phone, wallet, and keys… or should she leave her keys at home? Emma shook the question away. She put the keys on the counter. She'd be back, and soon. There was no reason to bring her keys.

While zipping her coat, Emma looked to Henry. Mary Margaret was adjusting his jacket.

"Take care of your mom, okay?"

With a smile, Henry nodded.

"Hey, I can take care of me," Emma said with a frown. "And I can take care of him. I'm the mom, he's the kid…I'll be taking care of you," she finished firmly, her stare on Henry.

The boy looked up to his grandmother who mouthed the words, "take care of her."

"Okay, let's go," Emma urged.

"Wait," Mary Margaret said. "Henry, why don't you say goodbye to David."

The eleven year old nodded in agreement while going over to his grandfather who was finishing a conversation with Gold.

With Henry gone from earshot, Mary Margaret focused on Emma.

"You have everything?"

"Yup."

"Cell phone charged?"

"To the max."

"Extra battery? Charger?"

"In my bag."

"Good, good," Mary Margaret murmured.

Emma smiled a bit at the worrisome look on her mother's face and said, "we'll be fine."

"I know, I just…. Well, I just got you back and now you're leaving."

"We won't be gone long. Gold wouldn't have insisted on going now if he didn't have a destination in mind. He doesn't seem like the type to go on wild goose chases."

"No, I suppose he had enough of that in our land," Mary Margaret muttered.

"Miss Swan," Gold called, "we'll have to be going now if I'll have enough time to purchase an additional plane ticket."

Emma sighed at his impatience. She focused on Mary Margaret and said, "duty calls."

Mary Margaret nodded. She put her arms around her daughter and squeezed tight.

"Ow," Emma murmured through a smile.

"Sorry, but… no, I'm not sorry."

Emma laughed a bit while pulling away.

"Take pictures. I've never seen an airport before… or anything outside of Storybroke."

"I don't have a-"

"My camera is in your bag."

Emma smiled. "Bye, Mary Margaret."

You can call me mom, she thought, just like she had often being doing since the curse was broken, but instead said, "bye Emma. Be safe."

With a final nod, Emma turned to usher Henry to the door, but Mary Margaret stopped her.

"Finding people… is that why you became a bail bondsman? You wanted to find people… find us."

Emma shifted uncomfortably. She nodded while putting her hands to Henry's shoulders.

Mary Margaret frowned. "You know you'll never have to look again."

"You won't either," Emma returned softly.

Mother and daughter shared a smile before Emma and Henry left the apartment for a quest to find Rumpel's son…

The End
