This used to be part of an old story of mine, but have since removed. This small segment was good enough though that I felt it could do good on its own, hope you enjoy!

The two sat on the cliff overlooking the vast ocean, the sky was a deep shade of oranges and reds as the sun began to set over the horizon. Ever since he was a small boy, Link would always come up here, imagining himself one day leaving this island to explore the endless sea.

Once he had experienced that dream… he wasn't sure if he ever wanted to leave his home again. He watched as the sun was beginning to lightly scrape against the ocean water, reflecting a pool of warm colors all around the waves.

He looked over to his friend to watch as the light blended with her own red eyes. She smiled when she noticed him staring at her.

"You know Link, despite seeing countless sunsets… each one is always more beautiful than the other." She kicked her feet as they hung off the edge of the cliff.

"Yeah, but it's a shame we can never see the same ones again after they're gone." They both scooted closer to one another.

"Much like the one from when I was last on Dragon Roost Island?" Link recoiled at the memory. He will never forgive himself for taking her away from her home. She noticed this.

"Link, what's wrong?" She grabbed hold of his wrist. "Please don't beat yourself up Link… I'm proud of this life of mine. I wouldn't change a thing about it."

"But don't you wish you could be home, with your people?" She thought for a moment before speaking.

"Maybe, but if I was there, then who would be with you Link?"

"I'd rather be alone, knowing that you'd be happy, rather than having company, so you would be sad." Her hand moved to his own as she moved closer to him.

"I am happy though Link…" She bit her lip at her current thought. "Happier than if I were home with my people."

Link scoffed, "Don't lie Medli, I don't need you to renounce your happiness to make me feel good about myself."

"I'm telling the truth Link… I am happy." He looked down toward the village. "I'm happy I can be with the boy who gave so much, but expected so little." Her eye's met his when she turned his head with her hand. "I'm happy that I have you as my friend… my best friend."

Both their faces grew red. They looked away from each other. Link's smile was faint, but clear. He was always happy to have a friend, and in his heart, he knew she would always be his.

"Link…" he faced her.

"Yeah?" she pulled a bracelet from her wrist, placing it into his hands as she continued to hold them.

"I want you to have this… so that while you're away, you'll think of me." Her eyes began to tear up at the thought of him being gone. He rubbed a stray drop from her cheek.

"I already do Medli…" They both laughed quietly… pulling each other into an embrace. As they pulled away, he studied the small gift. It had many tiny silver feathers, with black and red beads encasing a thin string.

The blonde haired boy looked to his friend again. She was watching as the last of the sun fell behind the horizon. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, with her leaning her head onto him… It was indeed a beautiful sunset.

Just to clarify, Link and Medli's relationship is not a romance, they're just really good friends (plus, they're kinda young so...). I just wanted to put that out there. Anyway, hope you enjoyed. ^-^
