Confession
Nick showed up at 9am as promised which surprised Judy. Of course, he was wearing that awful green shirt
and tie that she hated. But she smiled to herself. Nick was Nick. She just had to take him as he was.
"So Carrots since it's our day off and we have nothing planned, what do you want to do?"
"Well, I thought you might we might clean up my apartment."
His expression of his face was priceless and she burst out laughing.
"Sometimes Nicholas Piberius Wilde you're just too easy!"
"Ha Ha."
"Sorry Nick. I can resist anything, but temptation. Anyway, let's just go for a walk. OK."
"OK carrots," he said.
They walked through the city and Nick was quiet which was unusual for him. Could she have hurt his feelings
before? She remembered some of things he's pulled on her over the last year. She knew he wasn't being
mean, but sometimes it just hurt.
He started to walk past a park, but she touched his arm stopping him. She nodded back toward the park and he followed.
"Nick, this is beautiful," she said looking around. "It reminds me of the forests around BunnyBurrow."
"Do you get homesick sometimes, Fluff?"
He surprised her.
"Not often, but yes, once in a while."
She felt tears come to her eyes and Nick looked uncomfortable. He stood there looking away fidgeting. She wiped her eyes
and took his hand pulling off the path and onto the grass. Then she came to a large tree and sat. Judy patted the ground next
to her and Nick sat reluctantly. She looked off into the distance, but then she felt his eyes on her.
"Thanks for asking Nick," she said and leaned back against the tree. "Yes, I miss my family and the farm sometimes, but I've
known since I was little I didn't want live the rest of my life there."
She reached up and touched the three parallel scars on her cheek.
"I've seen you do that before," he said tentatively touching the same spot and feeling her lean into it. "Did something happen?"
"I haven't told you this because … well … I didn't know how you'd take it."
"Please tell me."
She sighed.
"When I was nine years old I was attacked by a Fox," she said feeling him begin pull his hand away.
She caught it and put his hand back against her cheek.
"Judy, I…"
"When I was nine years old, I was in a play…" She began and told the story.
He actually growled when she got to part of Gideon scratching her. Somehow that actually made her feel good.
"I'm sorry Judy that I reminded you of it."
"Nick, I'm glad you did."
"I wish I could've been there."
"Me too."
Finally she turned and looked at him. Then he took her face in both hands and smiled.
"You know you love me," he said, but this time he said it with his heart.
"Do I love you?" she said like it was obvious. "Yes. Yes, I do Nick with all my heart."
They moved closer and kissed gently.
