I have been sitting on this for so long and I've finally caved and decided to post it!
There are other chapter ideas, but for now this is all I have.
Let me know what you think!
Spencer's had a crush on Kendall since he met her.
Set during Dino Super Charge: Roar of the Ancients - Forged Under Fire
First Name
"Alien bio signs," Kendall frowned as the alarms blared a loud warning.
"Let's get out there," Tyler told his team, who nodded, ready to go out and fight.
"James, Prince Philip, I'm still transmuting your Energems," Kendall stopped the two from following. "I can't interrupt the process, you both need to stay," she told them apologetically.
"Going in two Rangers down?" Mack asked, concerned as the pair nodded reluctantly. "Maybe I should-" Ari caught his arm, stopping him with a shake of her head.
"Dad, don't worry, we'll be fine," Tyler told him with a smile as Mack looked unhappy. The Rangers hurried off, and after a small, strange interaction that ended with Mack taking a seat and Ari looking worried, Spencer sighed and approached Kendall again. She glanced up from her work and smiled a little, which made his stomach do a strange flip. He swallowed and smiled back, hoping his face wasn't as red as he'd hoped.
As the two worked on transmuting the last two Energems - with Kendall doing most of the work and Spencer just doing as directed - the former Rangers went up to the café to grab something to eat and to soothe Mack's worries about his son. James and Philip sparred to prepare themselves for the chance of having to join the other Rangers if the fight was continuing by the time the process was complete.
"You're pretty good," James commented as Philip offered a hand, having knocked him to the ground. "You know, for a Prince," he grinned, and Philip smiled, not taking offence as they continued to spar, throwing punches and kicks to throw the other off.
"Good to see they're getting along," Spencer commented quietly to Kendall, who glanced up.
"What?" she asked, looking blank. Spencer chuckled, amused that she always managed to tune them out.
"It's nothing. How's it going here?" he asked, edging closer to take a look and ignoring his treacherous heart that immediately began to beat harder at their closer proximity. He purposely looked down at the machine, missing her own blush as she tried not to look at him either.
"So are those two dating or what?" James asked quietly as he helped Philip back up.
"To be honest, I had thought so," the Prince replied, brushing himself off.
"Not yet," Arianna answered with an amused smile. "Though I don't think it'll be long. Spencer has just as much confidence as Chase," she giggled.
"You say that, but didn't it take him a while to ask out Olivia?" Philip asked her quietly, having heard all about it from his own girlfriend. She smiled, watching as Spencer and Kendall talked quietly, discussing the Super Charger.
"I guess stubbornness is also a trait in the family," she shrugged.
"I'm gonna get some more coffee," Spencer decided, fixing his glasses and turning away. He glanced over to the three still in the base, and they quickly averted their gaze. Spencer rolled his eyes as he walked out. "They're as subtle as...me, I guess," he sighed, scratching his head and making his hair stick up.
Spencer had had a crush on Kendall since the day he met her. That much he couldn't deny. She was pretty and smart and she was brave - or crazy - enough to sneak onto Sledge's ship without any power to save Ari and retrieve the Purple Energem. Even before then, he'd liked her, but his feelings had only grown. He had a suspicion his own team had caught on, considering they were always sending him to help out and not Kayden, who was far more experienced in helping develop equipment.
When Spencer returned with coffee, he glanced to the computer screen, which showed the Rangers fighting Fury in a Megazord battle that was going in their favour. "Here," Kendall looked up as he offered her a coffee.
"Oh, thanks," she smiled softly, taking it from him. Her fingers brushed his, and Spencer glanced away quickly as his heart sped up again. "Where'd everyone go?" she asked, and Spencer glanced around in surprise to find that the others had vanished as well. "Their Energems are still here," Kendall frowned, looking at the Graphite and Aqua Energems. Spencer swallowed, now very aware of his close proximity with no-one else around. "Well...I suppose it's quiet to get this done," she considered, continuing the transmutation process.
"Y-yeah," Spencer nodded, suddenly very nervous as he looked away. "Um, Ms. Morgan, do you want to get dinner sometime?" he blurted before he chickened out. After a moment, there was no response. "Ms. Morgan?" he turned to her, but she didn't blink, focused again. He couldn't help but laugh, and she looked up.
"Did you say something?" she asked, adjusting her glasses as she met his gaze.
"Uh..." Spencer debated internally dismissing it, before sighing. "I was asking you out to dinner," he confessed, and watched her eyes widen in an almost comedic fashion.
"You mean...like a..."
"Date. Exactly like that," Spencer nodded, his expression serious. Too nervous, he just stayed quiet and met her gaze as pink flooded her stunned face.
"I...yes, of course, I-that is..." Kendall stammered, her face growing even redder. "Yes," she nodded, looking very flustered.
"Y...yes?" Spencer seemed stunned that she'd agreed to it.
"That is what I said, isn't it?" Kendall asked, and Spencer laughed, putting a hand to his burning face to try and hide his delighted smile. Kendall couldn't help but smile either, finding his excitement adorable. "Though, I suppose now the others..." she murmured, glancing away.
"They don't need to know if you're not comfortable with it?" Spencer offered, and Kendall shook her head quickly.
"It's not that I'm not comfortable with it, it's just...the teasing," she sighed. Spencer grinned, a little relieved.
"Yeah, I know what you mean. We can just keep it quiet for now, see how it goes?" he suggested, and Kendall smiled again, her blush growing even warmer. How her face wasn't actually on fire, was beyond her. She finally understood the term 'butterflies in her stomach' as her stomach seemed to be going crazy. "But now, I have an even more important question," Spencer grew serious again, and Kendall's smile faded a little as he met her gaze.
"What is it?" she asked, curious.
"Can I..." Spencer took a deep breath. "Call you by your first name?" he asked, so serious that Kendall couldn't resist a small laugh. Spencer's own grin widened, loving her laugh. She rarely seemed to laugh, and it was a great sound.
"Yes, I suppose you can," she nodded.
"Good, because calling you Ms. Morgan on a date might be a bit more awkward than Kendall," Spencer winked, and Kendall couldn't deny that she liked him calling her by her first name. "So...would tomorrow night be enough notice for dinner?" he asked her, and she nodded.
"I believe that should be, assuming you're still in the city," Kendall considered.
"Huh. Good point," Spencer hummed. "Guess I'll tell Sky I'm taking a day off," he decided cheerfully.
"Aren't you already taking time off?" Kendall asked him.
"This is technically work. Sky asked me to help you guys out," Spencer shrugged. "Not that I was complaining," Kendall's blush returned full force at his words. She became very aware of how close he still was to her, and that there still was nobody else in the cave. Spencer's smile faded very slightly as he seemed to become aware of it as well, and there was a tense silence that fell between the pair as they didn't look away.
Slowly they drew forwards, and Kendall tilted her head up as he leaned down to kiss her. They moved closer as Kendall rested her hand on his arm, and his went to her waist to keep her close.
"How's the transmuting go..." James stopped suddenly with Philip bumping into him, as Spencer and Kendall quickly moved apart. Kendall quickly cleared her throat and turned back to the machine as Spencer turned away as well, both missing the grins exchanged by the two Rangers. The machine then beeped, and Kendall grabbed the two Energems.
"It's done, you can go help the others," she held them out, barely managing to meet their eyes as they took back their Energems.
"They look like they might need the help," Spencer nodded, seeing the Rangers fighting Singe and Hunter.
"We're on our way," Philip nodded, and the two hurried to help their team. As the doors slid shut, Spencer couldn't help but chuckle.
"Well, I was planning on seeing if the date went well before doing that..." Kendall glanced up as he approached her again.
"Optimistic," she retorted.
"Oh, like you wouldn't expect it," Spencer defended.
"I'm now seeing the family confidence," Kendall told him, smirking as he stood in front of her, so close they were touching. Feeling bold, she reached out and grabbed his hand, linking their fingers. Spencer watched her for a moment, and opened his mouth as if to say something, before changing his mind and leaning in instead, kissing her again. Kendall smiled into it, enjoying his warm embrace. They separated, and Spencer pressed a quick kiss to her lips before stepping back, keeping their hands linked.
"I'm looking forward to that date tomorrow," he winked at her, and Kendall rolled her eyes, but smiled, looking forward to it too.
I hope you liked it!
