AN: After drifting through the Harry Potter wiki page, I found a number of ultra-obscure characters from the games that haven't a single fic to their name. Needless to say, my muse wants to adopt them all. ; D
AN2: The character's name IS identical to a RL manga artist/writer, but this is coincidence.
Chie Shinohara was, to any external, the picture of calm and tranquillity as she stood on Platform nine and three quarters. Her short black hair was tied up in a bun and her muggle clothes had a distinctly casual air about them. But mentally, she was nothing short of terrified. Her stomach was filled with thousands of butterflies and she felt like her legs were made of lead. Her father put a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"Now remember Chie, you represent not just the Shinohara family name at Hogwarts, you also represent the honour of Japan," he told her solemnly as he looked her in the eye. Chie nodded, not trusting her voice. It was at times like this that she wished she was back in Japan, preparing to go to the Kyoto Academy of Fine Magic's. At least there she only had to worry about upholding her own family's name, mixing with students who shared a culture and background with her. Hogwarts was strange, a country and culture, so loud and chaotic and so unlike the refined and orderly magical community she knew.
"I will not let you down father," Chie said calmly. "I will conduct myself with honour and responsibility."
Her father smiled at her and he gave her a hug, a rare display of public emotion for a man who prided himself on his control in public. After a brief moment of shock, Chie allowed herself to return the favour.
"I know that you are nervous, entering a strange world with strange customs. I have no doubt you will perform exceptionally," he told her gently. "I know that you will adapt without losing yourself and your magic will flourish."
Chie allowed herself a small smile and she put her hand on her wand, ume tree wood with ameonna hair core. It was…reassuring to know she would have this little piece of home with her at Hogwarts. They had brought it before leaving Japan, before they had learned that her father was being given the post of Magical Diplomatic Attaché to Britain. And there was her gakugyō-jōju omamori of red cloth and gold lettering.
"Farewell Chie," her father said as he stood up. "I expect to hear from you soon."
"I will write as soon as I can father," she replied before turning to board the train. And as she watched Platform Nine and three quarters and her father disappear from view she gave her wand and her gakugyō-jōju omamori a comforting squeeze and prayed that it would see her safely through Hogwarts.
AN: Having done a bit of research on Japanese trees, mythology and good luck charms, I HOPE that I've got this stuff right. If not, I do apologise.
