"Mr. Quinn?" Mr. Rodgers snidely commented toward me, "Am I interrupting your mid-class nap, or should I continue my lesson? I would have thought that even a freshman would know proper classroom etiquette." My head snapped up as I was brought back to reality. "Um, no, sir. Sorry," I stuttered, not wanting to be sent to the principal's office again.
"Then I'll assume we can continue our lesson. As I was saying, we will be having a new student in our class today. His name is Vic Fuentes and I will expect you to treat him with the respect you would give to any other student." I was already nodding off again when I heard a quiet knock on the door. "That must be him," said Mr. Rodgers, using the same annoyingly nasal voice he always did.
He strode over to the cheap wooden door of the classroom and swung it open, using a force that was not completely necessary, and banging the wall as he did so. I was surprised to find the gorgeous latino that walked in.
He was a little short and scrawny, I was easily taller than him, but he had this muscular frame I couldn't keep my eyes off of. I let my eyes wander up and down his body, taking in his grey beanie, matching black skinnies to mine, and red vans. I was genuinely surprised when I noticed his tank top was an All Time Low shirt. I let my eyes stray up to his perfectly sculpted face, admiring his pouty pink lips, nose ring, and shining brown eyes. Even his messy shoulder-length brown hair was styled to perfection.
"Faggot," I heard Derek cough, who had seemed to notice my staring. Vic's eyes flicked towards me, and I hid my face with my wavy black hair, shielding myself from embarrassment. I could still hear Derek and his friends snickering when Mr. Rodgers began to speak again.
He welcomed the new kid into the class, introduced himself, and ushered him into the last open seat, which was, of course, next to me. When Vic propped his backpack next to the seat and sat down, I swear there must have been a chorus of laughter coming from Derek and his friends. Vic just looked confused, so I hid behind my backpack the remainder of the class to avoid being asked any questions.
When the bell finally rang, ending English class, I bolted for the door, trying to avoid having to speak to the mysterious classmate sitting next to me, but he pulled me by the arm just as I was getting out of my seat. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked, standing up so we were more at eye level. "Yeah, I'm fine," I said, hoping the encounter would be short. I didn't know if I could stand even speaking to him without drooling. "Oh… okay," he said, not buying it. "My name's Vic, what's yours?"
"Kellin," I said, shifting uncomfortably. "Cool name," he commented, "Do you know where Ms. Longworth's class is? I think I have her next period." He handed me his schedule. I looked it over and was excited about what I saw. "Yeah, she's right down that hall," I said, pointing behind him. "I have geometry with you the period after." He smiled. "Awesome. Want to pick me up from my class and we can walk there together?"
Was he flirting, or was I going insane, and was that a smirk on his lips? He quickly added, "So that I know where to go, of course." I agreed, knowing that the next hour would be torture as I waited for the seconds to pass by. We said our goodbyes, and parted our ways. I couldn't help but notice the curve of his ass as he turned around and walked to his next period.
