Shelagh never worried about where her husband would be, because he would either be at home or out on call. But, this time she had a strange feeling that something, wrong was going on. She was worried. She thought about calling the surgery or Nonnatus house but, what if there was no one there to answer or maybe there was an emergency?
-When will Daddy be back?- Angela asked.
-I don't know, sweet heart.- Shelagh responded.
He was 45 minutes late for their little family outing. It was Shelagh and his anniversary. A really important day, especially to Shelagh. She left the religious life for him, something which she had never intended to do. Yet, she was so young when she joined that, Sr Evangelina at least, had expected to find love and leave. Sr Julienne, someone who was and still is a motherly figure to her, didn't encourage it. But, Shelagh followed her heart and so did the nun many decades ago.
'' That's it. I'm calling.'' She thought, Nonnatus house first, then the surgery.
As she expected it took long for someone to respond but in the end Nurse Crane responded.
-Nonnatus house, midwife speaking.- she said.
-Nurse Crane, is Patrick Turner there?- Shelagh asked.
It was rare that she called him by his full name. And particularly strange, that she didn't call him Dr. Turner when speaking to colleagues. She was mad and couldn't help it!
-No, he isn't. Is he supposed to be here?- The midwife responded, with a hint of confusion in her voice.
-No, well, I don't think so...- Shelagh paused to think if, maybe, he had told her that he was going to be long.
-Wait, let me check something. One moment, Mrs Turner.- The midwife said.
''Oh do hurry up, I need to call the surgery next.'' Mrs Turner thought, impatiently.
-He's here, apparently, and- the receiver had cut.
''I'm going down there.'' Shelagh said.
She told Timothy to look after Teddy and Angela. Then, rushed off to Nonnatus House.
-I'm coming, I'm coming!- Sr Julienne panted as she opened the door. -Ah, Shelagh.-
-Where is he? Come on, tell me or show me. USE ONE OF YOUR FIVE SENSES FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!- Shelagh thundered past the nun and straight to the kitchen.
-Shelagh, it seems we have a situation.- Barbara said, as calmly as possible.
-What do you mean? ''we have a situation''?- Shelagh questioned, in the most irritable way possible.
-Well, you better sit down.- Barbara said, motioning to a chair.
