All I've ever wanted
Tess. That's all Oliver ever wanted, only, he was to blind to see it for a while. Now, it in itself is blinding. Now, watching her walk around watchtower with the same confident walk she had when she walked off that abandoned island all those years ago, he sees it, and he kicks himself for not seeing it before. Now, that Chloe and Oliver aren't together anymore, Oliver sees that Tess is the only one he's ever wanted.
Tess feels it, too, only she doesn't know that Oliver wants it. That's why when Oliver walks in with that cocky walk she's grown to love, she can't help but crack a smile, but not one large enough to be noticed. She hides it from him, makes it seem like she's smiling at the screen, even though she's not. Ever since Ollie and Chloe broke up, she feels like there might be room for her in his life. Might.
But, unfortunately, both Oliver and Tess are afraid of rejection and the heartbreak that comes with it. But today, Oliver has decided to take the risk because living in fear and loneliness is not the life he wants. Today, Tess is willing to take a leap of faith because she doesn't know how much longer she can bottle up her feelings.
So, today when Oliver walked into watchtower there was silence for the first couple of moments. As there always is, but there has been that silence since Tess became watchtower, so neither is troubled by it. As both think 'should I do it now?' Until they grow tired of silence and both say the other's name and laugh a soft laugh. Both find they act like a child around the other. Oliver says"Hold on, Tess, this is important." This statement is followed by more silence. "Uh, ok," Tess manages to stutter out. Frankly, she doesn't really want to go first.
"This is hard," Oliver says, "Tess, I've wanted to say this for a while now. But, I was afraid." Tess is now afraid, what could he have to say to her? The ways he's talking, it doesn't sound good. She's afraid that what she has to will be pointless because of what he has to say. But Oliver continued, "I still have feelings for you. And, trust me, I know this is real. I've tried to shove these feelings away, but I just can't seem to. Mercy, I hadn't realized just how much you mean to me and..." He trails off because now she won't look him in the eye.
Tess takes a deep breath. He does feel the same. "Don't. Don't stop," she surprises even herself by saying this, " because I know exactly how you feel." She laughs another soft laugh, "This is exactly what I wanted to talk to you about."
He pulls her into his embrace. He holds her like he never wants to let go, and that's because they fit together like a puzzle piece. And Tess can't help but think that what she was going to say did end up being pointless, but not in the way she was afraid of.
