Story is entirely from Shelby's perspective
Lois' fur and clothes were a mess, she looked like she was going to either pounce on someone or growl. I knew this was bad. She only acted like this when my other pet, Clark was gone. He had been gone for several days with some of the other humans I see quite often. He did that when dogs and humans needed saving. I could tell that Lois was trying to keep her attention on the box with lights that she and Clark always pay attention to, but it wasn't really working. She was pacing, that would work better if she had a tail to chase. She wasn't doing anything otherwise.
She suddenly decided to go to the food room. She grabbed some boxes and bowls and I knew she was going to cook something. They were going to be muffins. I hoped she would give me some too. I made sure that I was there in case she dropped something. She must have gotten a glimpse of my tail wagging reaction to what she was doing because the next thing I know I was back in the living room and she's locked me away from all the interesting smells. I know I'll get a taste of them anyway, Lois and Clark can't resist me when I give them a pleading look. I waited for her to come retrieve me and in the meantime distracted myself with the chew toy Clark bought me last month. Lois came back to the living room and I thought she came to get me for a taste test, but she was actually there to wait out the muffins bake time. She led me back to the couch patting my head when she sat down again.
The smell of pumpkin was getting overpowering for me. That had to be her muffins. Maybe they were ready. I got up from where she placed me and tried to get over to the counter. Lois was blocking my way, however. If I was human I would have pouted just then. Determined to get to that smell I tried again, but suddenly I heard a familiar whoosh. Clark was back. I turned around and made my way over to where I knew he'd be standing. Lois was right behind me, as I knew she'd be. She grabbed his hand and led him into the kitchen. Standing in front of the just out of the oven muffins, he grabbed one out the tin with one hand and held her with the other. He saw me standing behind them with my tail wagging and tossed me one to without letting her go.
"Pumpkin muffins?" he asked with a grin "That sounds familiar"
'You remembered, Smallville." she responded smiling back
They continued their conversation talking about a crazy jeweler and laughing about something about their friend, Oliver. I saw their entwined hands and decided that I needed to be in that embrace. I nudged their hands apart with my nose. My actions seemed to have startled her for a moment, then they both laughed. It was always better when my pets were together, they were happier that way.
