"Be a man, Korcha!" I tell myself desperately. "She's coming! Get up the guts and tell
her how you feel!"
I can feel my ears turning red and my palms sweating. In this instant, I wish time could
freeze so that I could gaze upon her lovely face for all eternity. There's a knot just above
my stomach and I can't speak. She's coming closer.
"What kind of chance could I possibly have?" I think. "She's out of reach for me... But,
it's now or never..."
"Kid," I said nervously. "I... um... Well, that is..."
"Oh, no. This is my only chance. Please, don't let me blow it now." I had it all planned out,
and now my words were leaving me, one by one. "I can't think, all I know is how beautiful
she is to me right now... I can't think, I can't think, I can't think," I scream inside my mind.
"Will... will you, uh..."
What am I doing? I'm such an idiot! Be aggressive, Korcha, just ask her... no, tell her...
"What is it, Korcha, will you spit it out?" Kid yelled. Her voice brought me crashing back to
reality. I was wasting precious time! "We ain't gettin' any younger," she added.
"I... I... wantCHA to... umm..."
Kid looked at me with actual concern. I didn't dare look up at her, knowing that I'd break
my concentration once again if I actually did. I didn't mean to upset Kid, my life, my love,
the only bright spot on my once dull life. I just couldn't bring myself to say it...
"Korcha, what is it already?"
"I SAID I WANTCHA TO BE MY WIFE!"
Kid's eyes widened. Oh, boy... not the reaction I was hoping for... "Should I make a run
for it?" I wondered vaguely.
"Wh-what did you just say?" she stuttered, shocked by the unexpected question. She
took a step backwards and stumbled into Serge, who looked almost more surprised than
Kid.
"It... it was love at first sight," I admitted. This was difficult. I was speaking from the heart.
I wanted to be with Kid for the rest of my life, but did she feel the same way? What
would she think of me now that she knew the truth? I wanted to marry her and be with
her always...
A few seconds seemed as though they lasted hours. I couldn't take it any longer. I felt I
would collapse if she turned me down...
"Well," she said finally, just as my impatience reached its limit. "Alright. I'll think about it.
But it'll have to wait til I'm finished with that bloody Lynx!"
