"Well?" Fox said, shrugging elegantly. The evening light highlighted the red in his hair and the sharp planes of his face. Despite everything he still looked so handsome that Emily was half afraid to look at him. This was not the response she had expected.

"Well?" Emily repeated, fighting to keep her voice level. "What do you mean well?"

"Well what do you want me to do about it?" Fox expanded. "I can't stop you being pregnant."

"I thought-" Emily faltered. She should have known better than to expect help from Fox.

"Did you honestly expect to help change nappies?"

Emily flushed. "I thought you could help."

Fox leaned towards her, coiling a lock of her wheat coloured hair through his fingers. His expression was almost pitying.

"You brought to life the wrong character," he said. "I'd have thought you'd have read enough books to know that men like me don't do consequences."

Emily wanted to slap him or shout at him or turn away, but she was too tired by it all.

"What am I supposed to do?" She wailed instead, her eyes pricking with tears. "I'll have to leave school. My Dad's going to kill me."

"So don't tell him," Fox said, as though it was that simple.

This was too much for Emily. The tears she had been holding back for days escaped in a series of racking sobs. Even now, part of her wished she didn't have to cry in front of Fox.

"It's okay," Fox soothed her, wiping away her tears with the tip of his thumb. "You'll figure something out."

Emily sobbed harder.

"Shhh," Fox said, closing the gap between them to kiss away her tears. He lowered her backwards onto the leafy forest floor, and Emily, afraid, lonely and desolate, did not stop him.

A.N. I make a rule of not writing about areas I have little-to-no experience in, so I wrote this against my better judgement. The reason I stuck with it is because I've read enough teen books and fan fiction to know a bad boy stereotype when I see one, so here's hoping I got it right.
