Bittersweet Chocolate
Chapter 1: Shuichi Minamino (Yu Yu Hakusho)
When did it start changing between them?
Kagome struggled to pin point the moment they began drifting from one another. And that revelation hurt her more than she realized, her heart grew heavy.
She glanced at the refined man beside her.
The passing city lights provided passing halos, illuminating his crimson hair and emerald eyes.
Handsome and ethereal.
Now it seemed so long ago when they could not keep their eyes off one another. Even their hands always seemed to find one another without a thought.
But now...
His hands remained neatly interlaced and planted on his lap. Her own tucked to her side.
Kagome glanced down at her hand and flexed her fingers, slowly forming a fist.
'Ah...' Kagome winced at her epiphany.
The secrets, hers and his.
She knew since the beginning, he was not human. Neither was he a youkai or any being she had encountered before, from the present or past. The closest she could ever describe his being was like that of reincarnation in which the soul was beyond human and kept its characteristics while inhabiting a human one.
So unique.
Never once had she shared her revelation with him. Given it was his secret to share.
'Or to not share in this scenario,' The Priestess thought sadly, finding for the first time in a long time doubts in her person.
How long had they been together and not once shared their biggest secrets with one another?
But this cavern was created on both sides.
Kagome struggled to find a situation where she could share her full life with him. Whether it was her selfish will to keep that part of past to herself or her fear that he would then realize her standing as just a reincarnation and a shadow of the past.
Kagome averted her eyes to the passing city of the taxi window, she could feel the familiar burning in her eyes.
She had brought this on herself.
And now she could no longer see the bridge between their two lives.
Unbeknownst to her, her fist had continued tightening until her manicured nails pierced her palm, her blood beading at the wounds.
Shuichi Minamino twitched as a familiar scent invaded his senses, his eyes darted towards his female companion.
Kagome jumped, sufficiently startled when a warm hand engulfed hers.
She turned to meet the worry in Shuichi's eyes.
She shared a broken smile, too tired to hide her feelings.
His own features dropped all formalities, adopting her sentiments.
This being the most truthful they had been to one another in a while.
Her heart lightened the slightest.
