It can't end like this.

Vincent shook his head, tears falling freely from his crimson eyes onto the wrinkled face of the man he loved.

His arms, unchanged after all these years held the weak body tightly to his chest.

"Don't go Cid, please." Vincent whispered softly. "I need you. I can't face this without you."

Cid's eyes blinked slowly trying to figure out what was going on.

"Wha… Wha ya.." He tried to mumble, but just couldn't find the strength.

Vincent felt his heart ache at the unrecognizing gaze staring up at him. He knew it wasn't the pilot's fault old age had taken his memories. He knew this day would come, but still, was it too much to ask to be able to have the person you love be talk to you in the last moments you would ever get to see them?

Apparently it was.

The unknowing eyes blinked up at him again and a soft smile appeared on his face.

" 's 'kay." He stuttered. " 's mkay"

Vincent couldn't help but smile at this. Cid had no idea what was going on, but he still wanted to comfort the man who was crying, even while he was about to die. Typical stubborn pilot.

"Cid…" he began, unsure of where to start, "I love you, so much, I can't do this, I can't live on while you die, while everyone I know dies."

He stopped, sobs ripping through him as he remembered Reeve's funeral just last month and he realized all the pain he would have to face on his own.

"I need you Cid." He cried once more burying his face in Cid's chest, wishing that if anything, he could make the trip to the lifestream with his beloved pilot.

He thought he was prepared for this.

He thought that when it was Cid's time to go, he would be able to see him off with a smile.

But as green started to swirl around the two, Vincent realized he was far from ready for this to happen.

"Cid…" he cried clutching even tighter to the old man, who just smiled peacefully, the most peaceful he had looked in a long time.

Then, Vincent knew he had to let go, had to let Cid move on.

He watched as the body in his arms faded into the green glow of the lifestream and then disappeared, leaving him completely alone.

AN: My first Valenwind! I hope that I got them right. I wanted to write something sad and this popped into my head! This is also the first fic up here that isn't Kingdom Hearts! I'm branching out!

Anyway, if people like this I'll do a follow up to it cuz I hate leaving Vincent all alone, poor guy.
