Unthinkable

A Sailor Moon Fanfiction

Disclaimer: I do not own Sailor Moon.

Venus, and Mercury, and Uranus were all unconscious, strewn across the battlefield. Jupiter and Mars were barely awake, their wounds proving too much. Neptune was trying to free Pluto from under some beams but was making little progress. Tuxedo Mask desperately was trying to protect Chibimoon but they were still taking a battering. Sailor Moon was the only one left standing, blood trickling from wounds along her back and arms. One dangerous wounds crossed her stomach, jeopardizing her early pregnancy. She was already 3 months along and had just found out. Chibiusa was supposed to return to the future in less than a week, but this battle...

It had come to this final battle so suddenly. Usually there were more numerous battles leading up to the end, allowing Sailor Moon time to become stronger, but, this time there had been so few. They weren't prepared. And it was here already. That same nameless formless evil that haunted them.

Even Saturn had been forced to fight, despite being six months pregnant. She had been so happy when she found out. When she and her love first thought about children, she had been in high school, still far too young. Then, later, things had been difficult. Maybe it had something to do with being the Warrior of Ruin, the Scout of Destruction the soldier of Death, but they had never seemed to be able to conceive.

Saturn placed a hand to her stomach, over the lump that was her baby. Remarkably, she could still transform.

Looking around the battlefield she knew they were loosing. Sailor Moon wasn't strong enough. Every attack just bounced off like it was nothing. The scouts' strongest attacks weren't even blinked at. There was only one thing that could be done. Saturn had to...

Who cared that if she didn't it would mean the end of the world...

Who cared that her child would never get a chance to live? Who cared that if she did she would be over 20 years younger then the man she called husband? ...Who cared? Who cared? Who cared...?

Damn it she cared. She wanted to live, for her child to live. She wanted things to be peaceful again. But it was no use. She knew what she had to do.

Wiping away tears, she stood from where she had crouched leaning against her glaive. As she walked towards Sailor Moon and the enemy she gave one final goodbye to her unborn child.

Sailor Moon sensed her presence as she approached, her eyes widening as she guessed Saturn's purpose, saw the pain filled eyes. "No... Hotaru, don't... Please not that.? Saturn wavered, but then felt a new brief determination.

"I'm sorry," she said. The two women hugged, saturn's protruding stomach pressed against Sailor Moon's flatter one as tears streamed out of their eyes.

Letting go of each other, Saturn turned and faced the enemy, taking a few steps forward. She clutched the glaive tighter as she steeled herself, before stretching it out in front of her.

And the glaive began its deadly fall...

AN:I came up with the idea while watching a nearly full moon pass through dark clouds while... Sorry that would be the poet in me speaking. Anyway I thought what if Saturn had to make an impossible choice. Five years later, and I'm finally getting around to posting this one.
