And I'd give up forever to touch you

Cuz I know that you feel the same way

You're the closest to heaven that I've ever been

And I don't want to go home right now

Sephy was tired from climbing up the steep cliff, but it felt nice to work her muscles, to make her feel physical pain. She had gone too long feeling numb and robotic outside and chaotic inside. Her head was pounding and her breath came in short gasps, and there was evermore that incessant pain in her heart that hadn't yet left her alone since...

She looked up at the clouds, and almost saw him, smiling down at her, telling her it was going to be all right.

How much did she pray, every day, that he had reached Heaven?

How much did she wish, every day, that he was there with her?

And all I can taste is this moment

And all I can breathe is your life

Sooner or later it's over

I just don't want to miss you tonight

He was almost there with her. She could almost feel his arms around her, his warm breath on her ear, his soft lips on her neck. She would give anything to have him there to see their baby, to see her, to talk with her and laugh and tell her that the world couldn't keep them apart.

Why was everything so unfair?

And yet, the tears wouldn't come. Are you protecting me? She wondered, and suddenly, she was smiling up at him. He was still her savior. He was still there with her. He would never let anything happen to her, or her baby.

And I don't want the world to see me

Cuz I don't think that they'd understand

When everything's made to be broken

I just want you to know who I am

He had given it all up for her. He had give his life to show how much he loved her, to show the world that nothing could break his ties with her.

Not even death.

He was fearless and strong and brave and the biggest mistake the world could have done was send him away. Away from Sephy. He had kidnapped her and held her hostage and yet still, still he was so precious. He had needed to prove to her that he was all right, that he wasn't going to hurt her. And yet he had let the one thing happen that would hurt her the most.

At least Sephy knew who he was, now. Even if the world couldn't understand it, she did.

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming

At the moment of truth in your lies

When everything seems like the movies

Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

It was hard. Her soul had gone with him up to the clouds. Her heart bled while her tears burned behind her eyes, but never came. He was up there, watching her, waiting for the hurt to go away. Was he that soft wind, come to comfort her? Or was he the warm air, protecting her from the cold?

One tearless sob racked her body, and she let the cool air wash over her.

In that moment, everything was all right again. She could almost feel the light and strength that had once flooded her, the courage and soul. Everything, her whole society held no truth for her anymore, but now it came, bursting forward and holding her in much the same way as he used to.

The moment was gone.

And then a smile touched her lips, and she turned.

She was ready to leave it all behind.

But never you, Callum. Never you.

And I don't want the world to see me

Cuz I don't think that they'd understand

When everything's made to be broken

I just want you to know who I am.

A/N: Just something that came to me while reading that book—this song was just so perfect. I was originally going to do it from Callum's point of view, but then he died and while I imagine the song being sung by Callum, you can perceive it however you want—either Sephy is thinking of the song or it's switching POV. Well anyways, hope you enjoyed, tell me what you think.

Disclaimer--The song is Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. And there's absolutely positively no way it's mine. Same with those characters--they're all Malorie Blackman's.
