.Closet Proposal.
Tina was on her way to the Director's office when a hand was slapped over her mouth and her feet were knocked out from under her. In a flurry, she was pulled, whimpering and clawing at the hand, into a dark closet. You gotta be kidding me! she screeched in her head, slightly petrified and far too apprehensive to open her screwed-shut blue eyes.
"Tina, you can relax now."
That voice was probably the last thing she expected -- and the only thing that would send her head shooting up in surprise, hands flying back to grip the closet wall steadily.
"Sorry about that," Zach muttered, smiling wryly. Tina's heart stuttered -- curse you, Zachary Goode -- and she felt like a swooning teenager again, not at all the twenty-something agent she actually was. "I just wanted to ask you…"
His voice was low and troubled, and in the dim light Tina could make out his emerald eyes glimmering faintly, his intense gaze hardening as he stuck his hand in his pocket. Still paralyzed with shock and utterly speechless, dear Tina could do nothing but watch as he withdrew a black, satin box with an astonishingly beautiful diamond ring and sank to one knee…
"Will you marry me?"
And, oh, he has pretty eyes…and hair, mmm…well gosh, is that a tux? But Tina, though a blonde to the core, was not a gullible idiot.
"How much did Grant pay you?" she asked, sassily placing her hand on hip as Zach deflated on the floor, rising sheepishly but with a smirk.
"Twenty bucks. Thirty if Cammie doesn't find out -- you don't mind, do you?"
Of course I don't mind! Tina thought, but she said nothing, just pursed her lips and shook her head, banging open the door and stalking past Zach, shouting, "You'll be lucky if South Korea hasn't heard by noon!"
As Zach stumbled out of the closet, an almost desperate gleam to his eyes -- but not quite, because Zachary Goode isn't desperate for anything, not even safety from the butt-whooping he'll surely receive from his girlfriend for this -- he shouts, "Wait! Tina!" and runs after her.
He's too late, however, and the Director's door clicks shut behind her as Tina takes her seat, smiling angelically at her boss. She's exactly three minutes and forty two seconds late; that 'meeting' with Zach sure had cost her. The Director appraised her suspiciously, glancing at the closed door, but Tina shook her head.
"Don't worry, Cammie. The ring he bought you is beautiful."
