Chapter 1
The date was February 16th, 1915. It was about 8 am and Jack & Elizabeth had just gotten up after spending the first night of their honeymoon in Niagara Falls. While there, they stayed at the Prince of Wales hotel.
The first thing Jack did was smile and tell Elizabeth, "Good morning beautiful! Did you have a good night?"
Elizabeth then responded by saying "Good morning handsome! It was a great night because I got to spend it with you!"
Since they were now married, they decided on some of the nicknames they were going to have for each other. Jack then smiled and asked her how she wanted to spend the day.
Elizabeth told him she would love to go horseback riding on one of the trails.
He said "Ok...horseback riding it is. I'll even give you a little lesson if you want."
Elizabeth then told Jack, "Yes, of course. I'm always up for a riding lesson."
After they got ready and ate a little breakfast they made their way to where they needed to be to start their horseback ride. On their horseback ride they talked & enjoyed each other's company, enjoyed all the beautiful surroundings and took some pics of the scenery and some together.
Meanwhile, back in Hope Valley, Abigail was busy tending to the needs of the town as mayor, helping run the cafe, and taking care of Becky & Cody while Clara, & Dottie were busy working on the latest designs for the dress shop. Rosemary would've been there too but she was on maternity leave after just having a baby. Also, Lee and most of the men who worked at the Saw mill spent their day helping each other build Jack & Elizabeth's first house they would soon move into. Lee had promised Jack that he would help try to have the house close to completion by the time he and Elizabeth returned from their honeymoon. The Hope Valley kids were also missing Elizabeth (and Jack too) but were enjoying learning from their substitute teacher Miss Fessler (Francine that is).
Now let's go back to Jack & Elizabeth on their honeymoon. After they rode back to the stables to drop off the horses they decided to get lunch somewhere then take a walk through the beautiful Queen Victoria Park. Since the park is known for its outstanding flower displays (particularly of daffodils and roses-(in season) they took a walk through the gardens holding hands and enjoying the scenery yet again and being together. Of course Jack brought the camera so he could capture more memories of his honeymoon with his beautiful wife. Once they got to the end of their walk in the gardens they were standing where a row of trees on both sides of the sidewalk looked like a canopy. Jack decided this would be the perfect time to take another picture or two with his girl. After taking one, Elizabeth thought they were about to leave when all the sudden Jack turns her head smiling & saying "Come here." giving her a kiss and taking another pic.
After this, they both smiled with Elizabeth saying, "Jack, I love you!"
Jack smiled back & said "I love you...more than you'll ever know!"
They then started their walk back through the gardens talking about how they wanted to spend the rest of the day. They decided to spend the rest of the day riding one of whirlpool aero cars over the Niagara Whirlpool then having dinner.
When the ride over the Niagara Whirlpool was almost over Elizabeth looked over at Jack and asked him, "Jack, isn't this beautiful?"
Jack then responded by saying "Yes...it is but not as beautiful as you."
Elizabeth then smiled and Jack did too. A few hours later they had eaten dinner and were back in their room at the hotel. It was about 8:30 pm now and Jack was doing some drawing in his sketchbook while Elizabeth was writing in her journal. In her journal entry for that day she said:
"Today was another great day on mine & Jack's honeymoon. It began by going on horseback ride on a beautiful trail here in Niagara Falls. We then had lunch and took a walk through Queen Victoria Park. The scenery was beautiful especially the canopy of trees we walked under at the end. After going to Queen Victoria Park, we spent the rest of the afternoon & early evening riding in a Whirlpool aero car over the Niagara Whirlpool then having dinner. This first half of the honeymoon with Jack at Niagara Falls has been amazing and I can't believe we'll be leaving tomorrow afternoon. While we are leaving Niagara Falls tomorrow I can't wait to spend the rest of the week with my sweet, handsome man at a cabin in the mountains closer to our home in Hope Valley. It's getting late so I will leave it at that and say until next time."
Both Jack and Elizabeth decided they were getting sleepy so they decided to call it a night. As they lay down, Jack put his arm around Elizabeth's waist pulling her close. He then said "Goodnight love!"
She responded by saying "Goodnight my darling Jack!"
The next morning…
Jack got up a little early at around 7:45 to make breakfast for him & Elizabeth. Soon after at around 8:30 Elizabeth got up to say good morning to Jack and eat breakfast. When he saw her, he said "Good morning beautiful! Did you sleep ok? I made you and I breakfast."
She responded by saying "I slept great and mmm...breakfast smells delicious!"
Jack then said "I hope you like it! It's pancakes and eggs."
Elizabeth then told Jack "I'm sure I'll love it! Thank you!"
During breakfast they talked about how they were going to spend the rest of their time at Niagara Falls before having to leave at 2 pm. They decided they were going to take a boat ride on Maid of the Mist the do a little shopping before they left. Shortly after they ate breakfast and got ready they were getting on the boat for Maid of the Mist.
During the boat ride all they could do was look around in awe at the beautiful scenery and just enjoy each other's company. As they looked around at all the scenery & listened to the crashing waves, they stood next to one another with their arms around each other's waists.
A few moments later, Jack turned to look at Elizabeth smiling and saying "I'm so grateful to be here with you Elizabeth!"
Elizabeth responded by saying "I'm so grateful to be here with you too Jack! I can't wait for the rest of our honeymoon!"
Jack then told her "I can't wait either!" After saying all this they gazed into each other's eyes smiling as Jack put his arms around Elizabeth's waist pulling her close for a kiss. As they gave each other a kiss they could feel every crashing wave aboard Maid of the Mist.
It was now about 10 am and time to do a little shopping before leaving Niagara Falls that afternoon. When they arrived in town they walked around to some of the different shops holding hands.
The first place they went was the hat shop. While there they had a great time trying on all the different hats while having some funny banter. Before they left, Jack decided he wanted to buy one of the hats Elizabeth told him she liked. He also bought a new hat for him and Lee. Before Jack took Elizabeth on a surprise carriage ride, they did a little more shopping.
While shopping, they bought a table runner for Clara, a silver platter spoon for Florence, a pocket knife for Jesse, maple tea for Faith, a nicely designed cane for Mr. Gowen, a flask for Bill, Tea towels for Molly, a pipe for Pastor Frank, a set of china for Abigail, a necklace for Rosemary, a souvenir thimble for Dottie, a dream catcher for Hickam, a calendar for Carson, and special toffee for Shane. Elizabeth also brought some things for a few of her students. Jack helped with some of these treats too. He bought all the boy's gifts and Elizabeth bought all the girl's gifts. She bought chocolate or cookies for Anna, Hattie, Ruby, and Maggie, maple fudge for Becky, special toffee for Laura, a moose Mountie figure for Opal, and a snow globe for Emily. On the boy's side; Jack bought a slingshot for Robert, a foxtail keychain for Harper, a drum for Timmy, a wood coaster for Philip, a wooden pistol for Cody, and a railroad whistle for Cyrus. Before they finished up their shopping Elizabeth bought a few surprise gifts for Jack.
It was about 11:30 when they finished shopping. After they finished and were walking down the sidewalk again, Jack turned to Elizabeth and said "I have a surprise for you."
Elizabeth then responded with a sweet smile and asked "What do you mean?" Jack then said "Come take a ride with me."
As soon as he said that a beautiful horse and white carriage pulled up to take them on a ride around town.
As soon as she saw the carriage she looked in awe then turned to Jack and said "Awe...you didn't have to do this Jack."
He then responded by saying "Oh yes I did Elizabeth. I love you so much and want to make to make this week one you'll remember forever."
On their carriage ride they sat side-by-side holding hands talking and enjoying the beautiful views around them. As they were nearing the end of the carriage ride they turned their heads and gazed into each other's eyes smiling. As they did this Jack took her other hand so he was holding both. As they leaned in to kiss, Jack gently rubbed her fingers with his thumbs. The carriage soon pulled up to the restaurant and ice cream parlor they were going to eat at before they went back to the hotel to finish packing up.
It was now about 1 pm and they just got back to the hotel from having lunch. When they got to the door of their room Jack, with all the shopping bags in hand took the room key out of his pocket then proceeded to pick Elizabeth up and carry her inside. Before he laid her down on the sofa he leaned in to give her a sweet and quick kiss on the nose. After he did this, she smiled while quickly scrunching her nose. Jack then smiled and said "I love you beautiful!"
In response, Elizabeth said "I love you too handsome! Thank you again for the nice carriage ride! I really enjoyed it!"
Jack then said, "You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll do anything to make you happy."
After they sat on the sofa for a moment they got back up to finish getting all their things together to leave. It was now about 1:50 and they had just arrived at the Niagara Falls train station that was going to take them to Union City.
After they arrived in Union City, someone came in a stagecoach to pick them up and take them to the secluded cabin in the mountains near Hope Valley. Once they arrived at the cabin, Jack stepped out of the stagecoach first then took Elizabeth's hand to help her out too. Once they took all their things inside the cabin they walked back outside to thank the stagecoach driver. He also told Jack and Elizabeth that he was going to go into Hope Valley to get Jack's horse Sergeant to bring back to them so they can go riding some during the week.
As they waited for the stagecoach driver to get back with Sergeant, Elizabeth sat on Jack's lap in one of the rocking chairs on the porch. As she laid her head on Jack's shoulder he put one arm around her waist slightly moving his hand up and down her back while he held her both her hands with the other. While looking at the beautiful mountain and lake views right in front of them they sat there talking and just enjoying being together. Since they were only about 30 minutes outside of town it only took the stagecoach driver about an hour & a half to get back from Hope Valley with Sergeant and some food they could eat over the next few days during their stay.
While most of the food came from the Mercantile, the rest came from Abigail's cafe. The food from Abigail's Cafe included a basket of scones and jelly, veggies, cheese, and loaves of hard crusted bread. After the stagecoach driver got back to their cabin they put Sergeant in the stable and stored all the food in their snowpack. They also thanked the driver again for bringing Sergeant and some extra food from the Mercantile and Abigail's Cafe.
He responded by saying "My pleasure. I hope you both enjoy the rest of your honeymoon!"
Since it was now about 5:45 pm, Jack and Elizabeth decided they should go ahead and make an early dinner before going on a sunset trail ride. As Elizabeth was making dinner Jack sat on the sofa drawing in his sketchbook. After a few minutes of drawing in his sketchbook, Jack sat it on the small table in front of him and stood up to help Elizabeth finish dinner. As Jack walked up behind Elizabeth he wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her close while giving her a sweet but quick kiss on cheek and asking if she needed help finishing dinner.
She responded by saying "No but thank you for offering Jack. I appreciate it. It's almost ready."
Jack then said "It smells delicious honey."
It was about 7 when they finished dinner so they went outside to the stable to get Sergeant so they could go on a sunset trail ride. First, Jack helped Elizabeth on his horse then he climbed on right after that sitting right behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. Jack also brought his camera so he could take some pictures with Elizabeth and of the beautiful sunset.
It was now 7:45 and their horseback ride was almost over. Since it was almost over, Jack asked Elizabeth if she wanted to get a picture.
She immediately said "Of course! I'm always up for a picture with my sweet, handsome man."
As soon as she said this Jack couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. Jack then leaned in closer to give Elizabeth a kiss on cheek. As he kissed her, Elizabeth quickly scrunched her nose and made a cute facial expression so he could take a picture of them with the sunset behind them. After he took the picture, Jack quickly but gently turned Elizabeth's head to give her a kiss on the lips. As he kissed her again, he took another picture.
Since it was almost dark outside, they started heading back to their cabin. Once they got back, they took Sergeant to the stable then went inside to put a log in the fireplace and cuddle on the sofa. While they sat on the sofa, they talked about things like the house they would move into and what it would look like & when they wanted to have kids & start a family.
When talking about starting a family Jack said "I would love for us to have kids as soon as possible but if you're not ready yet I completely understand & accept your decision. I would never want to push you into doing something you're not comfortable with."
Elizabeth then looked at Jack smiling and responded by saying "Thank you so much darling! I hope you know how much I appreciate that. You're the best man I'll ever know and I'm so lucky to have you! I can't wait to start a family with you! Whenever you're ready, I'll be ready too."
Jack then smiled and said, "You're the best woman I'll ever know and I'm so lucky to have you too love!" Jack paused for a moment and then continued by saying "And since we're both ready, let's start a family."
Elizabeth responded quickly by saying "Yes, let's do it!"
They then gazed into each other's eyes smiling and leaning in for a long passionate kiss. After their kiss, Jack put his arm around her while she laid her head on his shoulder. As they sat by the fire, Elizabeth said "Hey Jack?"
He then said "Yes, honey?" Elizabeth responded by asking "Do you remember that time we stayed on the Homestead? Such great memories!"
Jack responded again by saying "I agree. I was so proud of you for stepping up to look after Nellie & Patrick and I'm even more proud of you now. You've grown into an even more amazing woman than you were when I first met you."
With tears in her eyes, she said, "Awe...Jack, I...".
Already knowing what she was going to say, Jack stopped her and said, "You don't have to say anything. I love you too honey!" Jack then told her that he bought a few surprise gifts when they were at Niagara Falls. These gifts were a hat, a pair of heart shaped earrings, a pretty vase, a wrap, and a lavender scented perfume. After he gave all this to her, she smiled and said "Thank you so much darling! It's wonderful!"
Jack smiled then Elizabeth told Jack she also bought a few gifts for him. For Jack, she bought a soft cashmere scarf, a great smelling shaving soap with a silver handed shaver and a shell carved shaving brush, a family Bible with the date of their marriage inscribed inside, and a saddle with their initials carved on it. Jack then smiled and said, "Thank you so much love. I love it. You didn't have to get me anything."
Elizabeth responded by saying "Yes I did Jack. You always do so much for me and now it's time to do something for you."
Jacked slightly shook his head back and forth smiling and saying "Elizabeth Thornton, you never cease to amaze me."
As soon as Jack said this, Elizabeth smiled too and laid her head down on his shoulder again. It was now about 9:30 so they sat on the sofa for a few more minutes before deciding it was time to go to bed.
The next morning…
After they got up and had breakfast, they sat down close to one another on the sofa reading a devotional from the Bible Elizabeth gave Jack then saying a prayer. As they prayed, Jack and Elizabeth held each other's hands and bowed their heads. After they said a prayer, they walked outside to the lake holding hands.
Meanwhile, back in Hope Valley, Rosemary was busy taking care of her little one while Lee was at work at his saw mill. Also, Abigail was busy continuing with her daily routine of being mayor, running the cafe, and taking care of Cody and Becky. Bill continued being the sheriff keeping the town out of danger until Jack returned from his honeymoon. Lastly, Clara & Dottie were busy as always working on the latest designs for the dress shop while the kids were still enjoying school with Miss Fessler.
Now back to Jack & Elizabeth on their honeymoon. When they were in front of the lake they had some fun skipping rocks on the water. After about 15 minutes they spent a little while enjoying gathering leaves and flowers to dry and press then glue into a picture. Jack then asked Elizabeth if she could stand against one of the trees and pose so he could paint her portrait. This took about an hour. After he finished he showed Elizabeth. She looked at the painting in awe and told Jack "Thank you so much! I love it! You are amazing & so very talented!"
It was now 12 pm so they decided to have a picnic lunch on the lake. After lunch they sat in the boat for a little while longer enjoying each other's company and the beautiful mountain views around them. At one point Elizabeth looked at Jack asking, "Can I tell you something darling?"
He said, "Of course you can love." She then said "When you just gave me that portrait I immediately realized it was you that painted us kissing on the Founders Day play mural a few years ago." They both smiled & chuckled.
Jack then said "From that first day I met you I knew were meant for each other & that you were my one & only."
Elizabeth responded almost in tears saying, "Awe...Jack. I feel the same way. I'm so glad I accepted my teaching post in Hope Valley when I did. If I had not moved here to teach I would've never met the love of my life." As she said this Jack started tearing up too. He took her hands and they sat there smiling and gazing into each other's eyes not saying a word.
The time was now 1 pm so they decided to head back to the cabin for a little while. While inside they played some tic tac toe and a card game called penuche. Since it was such a nice day they decided to spend a little more time outside.
The first thing they did was carve their initials in one of the trees outside their cabin. It said E & J Thornton forever then under that it had their wedding date (February 14th, 1915). Around their initials and wedding date they carved a heart.
After this, Jack went to get his camera in case they wanted to take some pictures together outside. Elizabeth then sat down with her back against the tree they had just carved while Jack laid his head down on her lap. As Jack was laying his head down on her lap, Elizabeth held his hand and ran her fingers through his hair. In this moment, all they could do was look at one another, smile, and enjoy the beauty & privacy of their surroundings. Since the camera was next them, Elizabeth picked it up and told Jack to smile and make some funny faces for a few pictures. After Elizabeth took the pictures, she sat the camera down and both her & Jack dozed off to sleep.
When they woke up from their nap it was about 4 pm. Jack then asked her if she wanted to learn how to fish.
She responded by saying "I'm a Hope Valley woman, of course I do."
Jack went inside to get everything they needed then they walked over to the lake and sat down next to each other to start fishing. They spent an hour by the lake fishing before they went inside to make an early dinner and some desert as well.
It was now about 6:30 and dinner was ready. Jack told Elizabeth to start setting the table while he stepped outside for a moment. After she finished setting the table she sat down and waited for Jack to get back inside. When he walked in, he snuck up behind Elizabeth putting one of his hands on her shoulder. In the other hand he had a small bouquet of wildflowers. As she turned around to look at Jack, she saw him holding the bouquet of wildflowers, smiled, and said "Thank you! They're beautiful Jack!"
He then smiled for a moment before he said "Just like you."
Elizabeth then smiled back at him and put the flowers in her new vase before sitting down and joining Jack at the table. Before eating dinner they held hands and said grace.
After finishing dinner and dessert, it was 7:45 and they decided to go sit on the front porch and watch the sunset. As they walked outside, they sat down in the two rocking chairs right next to each other holding hands. As they were watching the sunset they could see a little bit of Hope Valley in the distance. They talked about how they've really enjoyed being on their honeymoon but that they can't wait to get back home to begin their lives together. After the sun went down, they went back inside to put a log in the fire and cuddle on the sofa.
Since Elizabeth enjoys poetry, the first thing she did was read one of her favorite poems aloud. After that, they decided to sing some songs together. The first song they sang was Amazing Grace. After that, they sang a song called "In the Sweet By and By" by S. Fillmore Bennett & Joseph P. Webster. As they were singing this, Elizabeth had laid down with her head on Jack's lap. He also held her hand and ran his fingers through her hair. As they got to the chorus, they continued to gaze into each other's eyes. The chorus of the song says:
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
When they finished singing Elizabeth said "Thanks for singing with me Jack! I really enjoyed it! We should start doing this every night. I love hearing the sound of your voice!"
Jack smiled at Elizabeth while continuing to run his fingers through her hair and said, "We will! And I love hearing the sound of your voice too!"
It was now about 9:45 so they both said they were tired & decided to go get ready for bed. As Elizabeth was walking over to get in the bed she noticed Jack staring at her and said "What?"
He said "Just admiring how beautiful you are and how grateful I am that you agreed to be my wife."
Elizabeth then got in the bed, smiled, and looked at Jack saying, "I love you darling! And you don't look so bad yourself my sweet handsome man."
Jack then smiled and kissed Elizabeth's hand. Before they lay down, they read another devotional out of their Bible then said a prayer. As they closed their eyes and began praying, Jack held Elizabeth's hand while she laid her head on his shoulder.
After the prayer, they decided to get up early the next day to take a horseback ride and watch the sunrise since they'd be leaving the following day. As they were lying down, Jack wrapped his arm around Elizabeth pulling her close while giving her a kiss behind her ear. Elizabeth then turned to face Jack asking him "I thought you said you were tired?"
He said "I did but that doesn't mean I don't want to snuggle with my beautiful wife."
After he said this, they smiled, gave each other a kiss, and wrapped their arms around one another pulling each other close. Elizabeth then said "Goodnight my darling! See you in the morning!"
Jack said "Goodnight my love! See you in the morning!"
The next day…
It came early for Jack and Elizabeth. They woke up at around 6:30, got ready, then walked outside to the stable so they could go on a horseback ride while watching the sunrise like they talked about doing the night before. Before they started their horseback ride, Jack put the new saddle Elizabeth gave him on Sergeant. Being the gentleman that he always is, Jack helped Elizabeth up on his horse first then climbed up right behind her wrapping his arms around her waist.
As they watched the sunrise, Elizabeth turned her head to face Jack. They then leaned in closer to give each other a good morning kiss. After a few more minutes, they finished their horseback ride so they could start making breakfast.
After breakfast, they sat on the sofa with Jack working on a painting and Elizabeth sewing a scarf to give Abigail. After spending about 3 hours painting and sewing, it was 11 am and they decided to go on another boat ride around the lake before eating lunch.
After a few more hours it was 5 pm and Jack & Elizabeth began packing up some of their things since they were leaving early the next day. They spent about 45 minutes doing this before Jack asked Elizabeth if she wanted to go hunting with him so they would have something different to make for dinner. She wasn't big into hunting but she said yes just so she could spend time with her husband. They got back from hunting at 6:45 to make dinner and once they finished eating Jack grabbed the camera before he and Elizabeth walked outside to watch the sunset. Before sitting on the porch to watch the sunset they walked over to the tree where they carved their initials so they could get a picture together. As they both sat on their knees facing each other they leaned in for a kiss. When they kissed, Jack took the picture with their carved initials showing above them.
After taking the picture they sat down in the two rocking chairs holding hands, talking and watching the sunset. They asked each other what their favorite part of the honeymoon has been. Elizabeth told Jack she's enjoyed every minute but that her favorite part has been snuggling in his arms every night.
Jack then told Elizabeth that he's enjoyed every minute of their trip too but that the best part has been snuggling in her arms every night. As he said this she smiled, stood up from her rocking chair, and sat down on Jack's lap. As the sun was quickly setting and Elizabeth sat down he pulled her close leaning his face into hers and giving her a nose kiss. A few moments later Elizabeth laid her head on Jack's shoulder as they both looked up at the stars smiling and holding hands but not saying a word.
It was now 8:15 so they decided to go inside and cuddle more on the sofa in front of the fire. As they sat on the sofa they talked for a few minutes before singing songs together again. Jack told her that before they left for their honeymoon Lee made a promise that he would make sure their house would be close to completion by the time they returned to Hope Valley.
Elizabeth smiled and said, "That's wonderful Jack! I can't wait to move in!"
Jack then said, "It is and I can't wait either."
Just like the night before, Elizabeth laid her head on Jack's lap as they sung Amazing Grace and In the Sweet By and By together. After this, they decided these would be the two songs they sing to each other every night before going to bed. It was now about 9:30 and like every night around this time they started getting ready for bed.
Before they laid down, they read a devotion from their bible and said a prayer. As they did this, Elizabeth leaned her head on Jack's shoulder while he held her hand. A few moments later, they laid down gazing into each other's eyes while pulling one another close. As Jack & Elizabeth continued looking into each other's eyes they gently ran their fingers through each other's hair telling each other goodnight. Jack said "Goodnight love! See you in the morning!"
Elizabeth then said "Goodnight darling! See you in the morning!"
The next morning…
Before Jack & Elizabeth left their cabin to head home they slept in until about 8:15. They woke up in each other's arms. The first thing Jack said was "Good morning beautiful! How was your night? Did you sleep well?"
Elizabeth responded by saying "Good morning handsome!" I slept well and had a wonderful night. Thanks for making it one of the best I've ever had!" Jack then said, "You're welcome. You know I love you and will do anything to make you happy."
Elizabeth smiled and said, "I love you too darling...so much"
They continued to stay in bed cuddling with each other for a little while longer. As they gazed into each other's eyes, they leaned in toward each other and kissed. Elizabeth then said, "I wish we could stay like this forever Jack."
Jack smiled at her and said "Elizabeth, we have forever to be together, just like this."
After saying this they continued to kiss longer and more deeply. It was now about 9 am so they decided it was time to get up, get ready, and finish packing the rest of their things. Since they slept in, Jack asked Elizabeth if she would like to have a quick breakfast before they left or if she wanted to wait until they returned to Hope Valley so they could eat at Abigail's Cafe.
She responded by saying she wanted to wait until they returned to Hope Valley. The time was now 9:50 am. Since the stagecoach driver said he would be there around 10 to pick them up they took all their stuff outside and waited on the front porch. After 10 minutes, the stagecoach arrived right on time. When it got there they loaded all their belongings including their suitcases, all the gifts from each other and for their friends, and anything else important. Jack then went to the stable to get Sergeant so he could help the driver attach him to the stagecoach. Before they left, Jack went back inside the cabin to make sure they weren't leaving anything. When Jack walked back outside he helped Elizabeth in the stagecoach then got in right behind her.
As they left, Jack put his arm around and held her hand while giving her a kiss on the forehead. About 30 minutes later, they arrived in Hope Valley and were greeted by Abigail, Becky, & Cody. They told Jack & Elizabeth welcome home and gave them a hug. After that, they went to the Row house to drop off all their things before heading back to the cafe for an early lunch.
As they started to walk inside the Row house Rosemary, holding her little one in her arms, saw Jack & Elizabeth, and walked outside to say hello. She said, "Jack, Elizabeth! Welcome home! How was your honeymoon?"
Elizabeth responded by saying, "It was wonderful. Thank you Rosemary!"
Jack and Elizabeth then looked into each other's eyes smiling while wrapping their arms around each other's waist. After they did this, they told Rosemary congratulations on her & Lee's newborn baby.
She said thank you then asked them if they wanted to join her and Lee for a welcome home dinner that evening.
They thanked her for the invitation but that they would like to spend some time alone. They also asked if they could plan to come over for dinner another day that week instead.
Rosemary responded by saying she understood and "Of course we can. Lee & I are just so happy for you two and glad you're back home. We missed you!"
They told Rosemary thank you again and "We missed you & Lee too. Have a great afternoon!"
As Jack and Elizabeth carried their things inside they saw all the wedding gifts from their parents and friends like Abigail, Rosemary, Lee, Frank, Bill, Clara, and Jesse. There was also wedding gift from all Elizabeth's students & Miss Fessler laying neatly folded on the sofa. It was a quilt that each of them had worked on sewing every day before and after school since Jack & Elizabeth left for their honeymoon a week ago. They also saw an album of wedding photos from the photographer sitting on the kitchen table.
Since it was about 11:15 and they hadn't eaten yet, they decided to walk over to the cafe before coming back to relax and look at their wedding pictures together. When they got to the cafe, Abigail walked over and gave them a hug. She said, "I know I've already told you but welcome home! I missed you both so much and am glad you're back!"
They said, "Thank you again Abigail! We missed you so much too and are glad to be back!"
At this time, they also gave Abigail the set of China they got her in Niagara Falls and the scarf Elizabeth made."
She told them thank you, how much she loved it, and that she had reserved a special table earlier for them whenever they came over to eat breakfast/an early lunch.
After they ate, Jack told Elizabeth he was going over to the mill to talk to Lee for a little while about the progress of their house but that he would be back over to the cafe soon to pick her up so they could head home to relax for a little while. As Jack stood up to leave the cafe he leaned over to kiss Elizabeth on the cheek and tell her he would see her later. She told him she would see him later too.
When Jack walked in the office, they shook hands as Lee said, "Welcome home! How was the honeymoon and how is married life?"
Jack responded by saying, "It was wonderful and we had a great time! It was great being engaged to Elizabeth but being married to her is even better! She's the most amazing beautiful woman I'll ever know & I love her more than anything else in the whole world."
Lee then smiled and said "I'm so happy for you both and glad you had a great trip! It's good to have you back Jack!"
Jack said, "It's good to be back!"
When talking about the house, Lee told Jack that with his help, it could be finished by the end of the week.
Jack smiled with excitement and said, "That is so great to hear! Thank you so much for helping while I was gone. I will definitely help starting first thing tomorrow."
While Jack was at the mill with Lee, Elizabeth was having tea with Abigail at the cafe. Even though she already did, Abigail asked her how the honeymoon was and how married life is going?
Elizabeth told Abigail it was one of the best weeks of her life. She also told her about some of the things they did like visiting Queen Victoria Park, going on Maid of the Mist & a carriage ride, looking up at the stars at their cabin in the mountains, and how Jack took her on both a sunrise and sunset trail ride & boat ride on the lake & taught her how to fish. When telling Abigail how married life was going, she said that while she loved being engaged to Jack, it's even more amazing to be married to him. She also said that she loves every single moment she spends with Jack but that her favorite part is snuggling in his arms every night.
After hearing this, Abigail smiled and told her how happy she looked. Elizabeth responded by saying "I am...so happy! Jack is the most handsome amazing man I'll ever know & I'm so lucky to have him. He's so kind, humble, sweet, and gentle & never pushes me to do anything I'm not comfortable with. I love him so much more than I can ever explain."
Abigail then smiled again and said " I'm so very happy for both of you! You and Jack are such a beautiful couple and are going to make amazing parents one day."
Elizabeth looked at Abigail smiling and said, "Thank you so much Abigail! That means the world to us!"
It was now about 1 pm and a few moments later Jack walked back in the cafe to pick up Elizabeth. As he walked over to where Abigail & Elizabeth were sitting, he put his hand on her shoulder and asked "Are you ready to go love?"
Elizabeth said, "Yes, I'm ready darling."
They hugged Abigail, told her goodbye, and that they would see her later then proceeded to walk back to the Row house holding each other's hands.
When they got back, Jack picked her up, carried her inside, and laid her on the sofa before walking over to pick up their wedding photo album that was sitting on the kitchen table. Before joining Elizabeth on the sofa, he also picked up the painting of the cabin from their honeymoon he did that he was going to give her. As he sat on the sofa, he and Elizabeth pulled each other close cuddling and looking through their wedding photo album.
While looking at all the photos, they pointed out some of their favorites and talked about what a special day that was. Jack said, "You looked absolutely amazing! I'm blown away every day with how beautiful you are. I love being married to you & I'm so glad you agreed to be my wife."
Elizabeth, almost in tears, responded by saying, "Awe...Jack! Thank you! I'm blown away every day with how handsome you are. I love being married to you too & so glad you asked me to be your wife. I love you so much more than I can ever explain darling."
Jack then said, I love you too honey...more than anything in the whole world."
After he said this, he gave her the painting of the cabin from their honeymoon. She told him thank you, how much she loved it, and how talented he is.
After hearing this Jack said "Thank you Elizabeth! There's also something exciting I'd like to tell you. When I saw Lee today, he said that our house could be finished by the end of the week. I'm going to go over there tomorrow and help if that's ok."
With excitement in her voice, Elizabeth said, "That's wonderful Jack! And of course it's ok. I'm so ready for us to move into our house and start our family!"
When they finished opening a few of their wedding gifts it was about 2:45. They decided they were now going to eat a little snack then take a boat ride around the lake near the church / schoolhouse. After a few hours went by they were back at the Row house making dinner. When dinner was ready they sat down at the table, held hands, and said grace before eating like they do every night.
It was about 7:45 when they finished eating dinner. Since their wedding gift from Lee & Rosemary was a Victrola and few records Jacked walked over to start playing one then walked back to the table where Elizabeth was sitting to ask her for a dance. As the music was playing Jack held out his hand and said, "May I have this dance Mrs. Thornton?"
Elizabeth smiled, took Jack's hand, and stood up from her chair saying, "Yes, I would love to Mr. Thornton."
They started off with the waltz then finished by just pulling one another close enjoying the music. As they leaned their heads together, Elizabeth said, "You are such a good dancer Jack!"
Jack responded by saying "Thank you love! I did learn from the best!"
After he said this all Elizabeth could do was smile and look into Jack's eyes. After they danced, they went back to cuddle on the sofa and sing together like they do every night. As they sang, Elizabeth laid her head on Jack's shoulder while he held her hand gently rubbing her fingers with his thumb. They sat and talked for a few more minutes before deciding that it was getting late and they needed to go to bed.
Before they got up to go to bed, Jack & Elizabeth leaned in close to give each other a kiss. They then paused for a moment gazing into each other's eyes before kissing again, only this time a little longer and more deeply. A few moments later, Jack picked Elizabeth up and carried her in his arms up the stairs.
