Cloth World By Harper Williams
I don't own a thing, not even Cloth World, it's an actual store. On a personal note: I got my learners permit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now back to the story.
The front door jingles as it opens. I look up from the pile of velvet that I'm folding carefully and see that nice young man that is always coming in here. Peter, I think his name is. He's a strange one, that one is, strange but still a nice boy. I look over the top of my glasses as I address him
" well Peter, what might you be needing today?"
Peter looks at his feet as if he's a tad embarrassed. His voice is tentive "have you gotten in that shipment that I ordered yet?" I give him a reassuring smile, he's such an insecure lad, " why yes Peter and it's ready for you to take home".
He smiles gratefully as I leave to search the backroom for his order. When I've retrieved it and brought it to the counter Peter has gathered a few items on top of it. I begin to ring up his purchases. Packet of needles $3.62, five spools of blue and red thread $4.28, three packets of black lining $9.45, and his special order of sixteen yards of blue and red spandex $49.83. I add everything up and bag his purchases
" here you are Peter, your total will be $71.87".
He pulls out his wallet and begins counting his money. A moment later he takes out his change and begins counting.
He looks up, embarrassed " uh.., Ms. Applebee, I don't have enough on me to pay the entire bill. Would it be possible to put the remaining amount on my tab? I get paid in two days so...". I smile at him, such a polite young man " of course Peter, I see no problem in that". He hands me $52.36 and I give him his receipt.
I'm about to ask how his job is going when a slight explosion is heard from down the street. Peter quickly grabs his purchases and rushes out the door without saying goodbye. Strange boy that one is, rushing off without an excuse, and I wonder what in the world would anyone do with 16 yards of blue and red spandex. That's nearly 50 feet!
Strange, strange boy. I go back to folding my velvet, it's just another day at Cloth World.
