~*Chapter one: The start of the light and Dark Alchemist*~
~Flashback/A couple years ago~
Another day of rain had came to a small town resting in a wide field of grass, farms, and homes where people walked through the cool rain, seeing the raindrops hitting the slightly wet ground since it really needed the rain. Some people were in their homes watching from the window, seeing the dark clouds move across the sky and hearing the wind blowing. Near a house resting beside a small lake and a apple tree, two twin sisters were about to head out to market to get some food due to the shortage in the kitchen but seeing their baby sister begging them to let her stay home.
"Sister, for the last time, we don't know if you are okay staying here in the house by yourself since you like exploring whenever we leave you alone."
"Oh, come on sis, let me stay home please. I really don't want to go anywhere and I just want to listen to the rain outside honest. So can I stay home, please please please?"
A 6 year old little girl begged to the two in front of her. She had short black hair that's near her shoulders but will grow when getting older and the same for her dark black eyes. She had a blue shirt on with black pants but wearing a special silver pendent necklace that was given to her by their mother. She knew she was somewhat know about being by herself, and knew the neighbors that was across the street from them just in case.
"*Sighs*I don't know, baby sister. We know how you are when it comes to leaving you home and I know mom and dad wouldn't want us to leave you here by yourself." Said the 13 year old girl with normal brown hair with front bangs with blue eyes. She wore all black except having a snowflake pendent necklace around her neck just like the little girl.
"She's got a point, you know. Both of us know how wild you are when it comes to leaving you here alone but I got a bad feeling if we do or it could be me just feeling really hungry."Said the second twin that's the same age with brown hair but it's a little bit lighter, light blue hair with front bangs as well. She was wearing a light blue shirt with black pants too with a tea leaf pendent necklace around her neck as well. The little girl sighed disappointed while looking at the two, lowering her hands as her eyes showed sadness a bit.
The Twins named Flora Smallwood and Lucy Smallwood sighed at the same time, shaking their heads but gazed down at their baby sister named Melissa Smallwood, seeing her pout at the two of them because they didn't really trust her to be home all alone, even when doing some tasks. Melissa still didn't move or speak as she kept her gaze on her sisters, ready to say something till Flora spoke.
"Alright, Alright fine but listen to me, Melissa. The market will close in a little while because of a bigger storm coming so you can stay home since we have to get food for ourselves.
"Yay! Thank you so much, sis."
"Wait, a sec now. You are to stay here in the living room or your bedroom till we come back." Florina said as she sees Melissa nod her head excited before seeing Lucy bend down to say, "So, you promise us that you won't do go lurking around the house or do anything dangerous?"
Melissa giggled while looking at Flora but goes to hug her and Lucy, eyes shut gently before she lets them go. "Yeah, me promises big sisters but you know you two can always trust me. I won't do anything wrong but be a good sister like you wish."
"Yeah, we hope you do. Anyway, we need to go but like Flora said; don't do anything dangerous because you're still learning with your Alchemy as well. That means don't go into dad's lab where he used to do his study unless we are with you, okay?"
With a nod, Flora and Lucy gets their shoes and umbrellas before heading out into the rain so they can buy some food for the three of them and come right back. When the two twins closed the door and left the front of the house, Melissa sighed and leaves to take a seat in the living room to wait for them. As she was looking at the clock, she already knew what they spoke of before her eyes sees the second door beside the kitchen which had her thinking of her parents. Years ago, when she was a bit younger at the age of 4, their mother Sarah rose smallwood was the first woman in their town to be the light alchemist and a healer but when she meet their dad, Tommy smallwood, a dark alchemist who came into town, both used to work together as team partners and then fell in love. A few more years passed and they got married then had the twins first then it was her that came last.
They were always happy as a family, playing and goofing off even when their parents were always busy. It seems it was a dream come true. Sadly, it became short when their father was killed by someone one night, trying to stop him from killing more innocent people. It was a sad loss but there mother said they shouldn't lose hope and move one. A few more years passed and it was their mother's turn to pass due to a dangerous accident when she was using alchemy or fusing dark and light together to try to cause something but it ended badly.
Shaking the memory out of her head, Melissa looked around the living room, seeing the old family photo of their father and mother, her twin sisters smiling while holding her hands but she was about still 4 years old when it was taken. Seeing that picture made her wish her parents were still with her and the twins, making sure that day never happened but it did. She knew her mother told her that using Alchemy can be a wonderful experience but it's also dangerous in the wrong hands. She reaches up to grab the picture but touches the cold glass frame of the family in the photo.
"Mom…Dad…I wish you were still here with us but even if it's possible, I just wish I can find some way of bringing you both back to life so we can be a family again."She whispered in a soft sad tone, looking at the family photo once more to set it back on the table and went to the chair.
Before she did get to the chair, Melissa remembered something of what Lucy and Flora said of their father's old lab. Their dad would do his studying in there so he can try do better things for their small town but what he didn't tell them is a secret he's kept from them. When they go down there to practice, she would see books of his old work, notes of alchemy, and other things. He always told her and the twins stories of their mother when she was still living and the things they were working on but Melissa was interested in something else.
Her father was studying something called The Human Transmutation, a forbidden act of trying to bringing humans to life but this was forbidden to all Alchemists so no one was to try to attempt it. Remembering that info got Melissa thinking; if she did this, not only will she be breaking the rules but she could also she her parents again. Looking at the picture again, she got up and looked at the window, seeing small flashes of light that told her of a thunderstorm drawing near.
'Flora...Lucy, please forgive me for what I'm about to do. I know you said never to do much with my Alchemy and to not go in Dad's lab alone but…I think I'll try a higher trade of getting our parents back.'
Turning around, Melissa heads off to her father's study room where she will need the following things to attempt the forbidden act: Human Transmutation. Somewhere standing in the rain but gazing at around was a male who was just finishing a assignment that was needed for knowing of this town. Hearing the thunder, he kept his ground but looked all around just in case of something. Inside again, Melissa was downstairs to the bottom of the house, drawing the symbol from her dad's books.
Her hands were coated in chalk but she sighs when finishing up the last details to the drawing that was like the picture. "Hmmm, Let's see, I think that's everything and I got mom and dad's ashes. Just need to set them in the middle here with the other things I need and I should be ready to go. Though, I know my sisters are going to kill me for this but I need to see mama and papa again." Finally, Melissa was finished with the drawing, setting the white chalk down and looked at the middle to her mother and father's ashes in the middle of circle once more. Taking a deep breath and feeling her heartbeat loud in her ears, she places her hands on the edge of the circle and uses her Alchemy, activating it.
She lets out a shocked gasp when her black eyes sees the drawing glowing a beautiful gold color, feeling the warmth from it all around her. With hope showing in her eyes, she only prayed this would work. Outside again, Flora and Lucy were just coming back home while holding some bags of groceries and other things. They were lucky to get everything they need before the market closed up and the storm getting worse.
"You okay, Flora? You seem a bit worried once again. I told you that nothing bad is going to happen and I know Mel will be okay."Lucy said to her twin, using Melissa's small nickname she was given from them. Lucy looked at Flora with her worried eyes but releases a sigh, still not able to shake off this worried feeling about something and her baby sister, Melissa.
"I know that but why do I get this feeling something bad will happen when we get back to the house? What if Mel got hurt? What if someone kidnapped her? What if-" "Easy sis, breath. Mel said she was going to behave, remember? She will be fine." "Oh sure, you can handle that kind of worry but me, I can't. We already lost our parents but I am not ready to lose Mel."
Lucy can tell she was indeed worried about their baby sister to look stop. She always knew when something was wrong, Flora would panic because of it. Worried for her twin, Lucy placed a calm hand on Flora's raincoat shoulder but giving off a warm calm smile.
"Trust me sis, I know that Melissa is alright."
Lucy looked at Flora with a smile of her own and the two kept walking back home. Melissa was still having her hands on the circle, seeing the golden like light around her and the warmth really leaving her skin tingling because of it. She was smiling seeing lightning striking the two ashes in the middle but it told her something to this actually working. It was really working!
"I-It's working, Yes! If I can keep this up for just a while longer, I know mom and dad will come back. I just know it."She said with hope in her eyes while looking at the golden light that felt wonderful. When she thought nothing could ruin this; she felt something a bit off. The golden light slowly disappears to now show a black and purple dark light that surprised Melissa for a second but she was confused as to why the light changed.
'Huh? What just happened? Why did the light became so….Dark and cold? Was this...Something's wrong.'
She thought as she looked around but felt a bit scared now. Before she could get up, she felt a jab of pain on her arm and leg, like something was stabbing into them with knives. She looks back to see them slowly melting away in the darkness. Her eyes widen in fear and horror, screaming in pain while it kept getting worse and worse. Flora and Lucy kept walking as they get close to the house but as they did, Flora couldn't shake off the feeling of something bad happening. Flow saw that but kept telling her that nothing bad was going to happen and before she could speak, she stops in her tracks but her face was in shock. Flow looked ahead just wanting to get back home as she looked in the same direction to see some weird glow coming from their house but a distance scream was heard as well.
"What is that?"
"I don't know but, you don't think that…"Lucy stopped speaking but feared for the worst to something happening to their baby sister. With horror shown in their eyes, Flora ran back to the house with Lucy behind her, worried for something happening to Mel or was worried she did something she wasn't allowed to do. Roy also noticed the dark light but he runs to his car, getting in and drives to the house with the light. When the twins came back into the house, dripping wet from the rain, they shield their eyes from the light that hurt their eyes but they saw it was coming from the lower part of the house and the same for the screaming.
"Mel! Hold on, were coming!" Quickly, the twins ran and opened the door and sees what they feared. The dark light was covering the whole room, seeing their baby sister, crying and screaming in a small pool of blood but that wasn't was got them feeling pale. They see she was missing her arm and leg and her shirt was burned off from seeing a transmutation circle burned on her back.
"Sis!" They went over to her in panic but tries helping her up to see her face scrunched up in horrible pain, crying and sobbing in hopes the pain will stop. "We need to get out of here and take her to the hospital!"
"Hold on, Mel. You're going to be okay. Just try to hold on." Flora said crying now as she was about to pick her up but couldn't to see dark black hands holding her wrists and Lucy's as well. The twins struggles in order to try and get them to let go but they were too strong before feeling pain shooting from their feet.
"N-NO! Stop it, please! I just wanted mom and dad back with us so we can be a family! I didn't want this to happen!"She screamed, feeling more pain while she kept looking up. Flora and Lucy look to see the darkness was swallowing up their bodies but they were trying to get away, reaching out to their baby sister before they disappeared as well. Melissa saw everything and looked scared, fresh warm tears stained eyes because her twin sisters were now gone because of her.
"N-no...no, please no. Not my s-sisters..." she whispers but was shaking, trying to sit up but looks to see nothing but darkness and emptiness. Melissa didn't know what went wrong due to her having all the right ingredients of the human body but she miscalculated to cause this horror accident to have her give up a arm, leg, her self, and now her twin sisters. Melissa felt her vision blinded by pain and her tears, ears hurting from the screaming while feeling dizzy and faint till she slowly saw the dark light releasing a bit burst of energy to make it quiet but knocked her to her side but outside. When Melissa slowly opened her eyes, she coughed due to the smoke but looked down to try and stop the bleeding but can't.
"Please...please give them back. Give me back my sisters, please! Please!"She screamed while leaving a pool of blood under her but she didn't hear anything or got a call back, thinking this was a joke. This was real; her Sisters were gone and now she was alone, nothing but silence around her. She kept crying with her head down but slowly hears two groaning sounds in front of her. Looking up with tears in her eyes, Melissa saw the center of the circle, seeing two figures moving slowly in the darkness. Her eyes widen to see this but they looked almost lifeless but were happy.
"Flora? Lucy? I-is that you?"She whispered, looking over at them. The smoke slowly started to disappear, showing the two figures more clearly but Melissa saw two sets of red eyes and saw that they wasn't her sisters nor parents but a monster from a horrible place that she never wanted to speak of. The two figures were gasping while reaching for her but Melissa's eyes widen in horror and let out the terrifying scream that split into the night of the storm from what she had created and of what she's done or mostly starting a new life that she will have to endure with her twin sisters.
