A/N: So, this is my first ever attempt at fanfic. Decided to come up with something for the /r/RWBY's White Rose Wednesday. So I created a little White Rose fluff piece. Rated T for some language, and 1 rather suggestive moment. Rates/Reviews are very much appreciated! It was just another normal weekend day in the Team RWBY dorm for Weiss. Yang and Blake had gone off to do who knows what, and Ruby was in her bed listening to some music. Meanwhile, Weiss was working on homework, as usual. The room was quiet except for the somewhat muted sounds of Ruby's headphones and the occasional scratching sound from Weiss' pen as she wrote out the answers to the questions Professor Port had assigned them for Grimm Studies Class.
Weiss often enjoyed the silence of the weekends, and used it to get her homework done. As the Schnee Company heiress, she knew that her father expected nothing but the best from her. But even more than that, she worked so hard on her school work because she wanted to succeed more than anyone else. So she would almost always take advantage of the silence of the weekend to get their homework done, unless the rest of her team dragged her off to go do something together.
Which is why she was startled out of her focus when she heard a voice call her name out in the usually silent room.
"Hey Weiss, I'm bored. Let's do something," Ruby said.
Weiss sighed and looked up from her desk at her partner, team leader, and more recently, girlfriend sitting in the top bunk. Her silver eyes were alight with the possibility of doing something that didn't involve sitting around doing nothing; body tense with the limitless energy she always seems to possess.
"And what kind of something do you think we should do?" Weiss asked. "You know I use the weekends to get homework done, Ruby. Perhaps you should do the same?" Weiss asked pointedly.
"Awwww come on! We can always do that tomorrow! You need to take a break from doing nothing but schoolwork Weiss, and take some time to relax. And besides, I was hoping that we could, maybe…dosomethingtogethersinceit'sbeenawhilesincewe'vegottentohangout alone..." Ruby trailed off breathlessly, cheeks tinged a light pink in embarrassment.
Weiss let out a huff and rolled her eyes, but she couldn't keep a smile from forming on her lips. "Fine, I SUPPOSE I can take a break from studying, if you promise to spend all of tomorrow studying with me," Weiss said.
Ruby let out an excited squeal, and proceeded to jump down from her bunk and give Weiss a big hug. "Thank you thank you thank you! I promise to study tomorrow with you," Ruby said.
Weiss let out a chuckle and managed to extricate herself from the hug. "Okay, so what do you want to do now that you've gotten me away from studying?" Weiss asked.
Ruby rubbed the back of her head and gave Weiss a sheepish grin. "I don't know. I didn't honestly think I'd get this far. Ooh ooh, we could play some video games!" Ruby exclaimed.
Weiss stood in a contemplative silence for a few moments thinking about whether or not she wanted to play video games. She knew that Ruby was a relatively hardcore gamer, and Weiss knew that she tended to get a little…overcompetitve when playing video games. That being said, she couldn't think of anything better to do, so she decided to agree to play some video games with Ruby.
"Okay, we can do that. What games do you have that we can play?" Weiss asked.
"Let's see, we can play Mario Kart, Wii Sports, Rock Band, Dance Dance Revolution…" Ruby trailed off.
Weiss thought about those for a minute, and decided on Wii Sports, to start off with.
Ruby and Weiss spent the next half hour going through all the sports on the game. Weiss ended up surprising both Ruby and herself when she beat Ruby pretty soundly in bowling, although Ruby made up for it in both baseball and boxing. Weiss, to neither girl's surprise, mopped the floor with Ruby in both tennis and golf.
"Well, that was fun. But I'm starting to get a bit bored of this. Why don't we play something else now?" Weiss suggested.
"Okay, hmmm, how about Mario Kart?" Ruby asked as she pulled out the game. "That sounds fine, let's do that," Weiss said.
Within the first 5 minutes, Weiss knew she had made a terrible, terrible mistake. She found out relatively quickly that she was bad at Mario Kart. VERY. Bad. No matter how much she tried and how much she focused, she simply couldn't get the hang of driving the little go karts around, her frustration becoming visible as she ground her teeth.
Finally, it reached a breaking point, when she fell off of Rainbow Road for the 12th time. "UGHHH! What am I doing wrong?! Why can't I stay on this stupid track?!" Weiss screamed out.
"Take it easy Weiss, it's just a game," Ruby said. She instantly regretted saying anything when Weiss turned towards her, glowering ominously.
"Yes, it's a game. But unlike you, I don't have fun FALLING OFF A FUCKING TRACK EVERYTIME I TRY AND GO FORWARD!" Weiss yelled.
"Ookay, maybe it's time to pick another game," Ruby quickly said before things got any worse. "We could try Rock Band?"
Weiss thought about this for a moment as she began to cool off. "Do you have any other games by chance?" she asked Ruby.
"Yeah, over there in the shelf, just pick whatever one you want," Ruby said.
Weiss walked over to the shelf and looked through Ruby's collection, whistling internally. The girl had a LOT of games. As she was searching through them, one in particular caught her eye. She KNEW how to play that game, and she was pretty sure she would be MORE than a match for Ruby, no matter how good the crimsonette was at it.
"How about this one?" She asked as she walked over with a copy of Super Smash Bros: Brawl.
"Uhhh, are you sure about that Weiss? That game can be pretty challenging, and I'm pretty good at it. I don't want to dishearten you with a smackdown," Ruby said.
Weiss was insulted at that last statement, but she hid it well. 'So Ruby, you think you're going to be able to take me out with ease, huh. Then I guess it's time to up the ante.' Weiss thought.
"In that case Ruby, why don't we make a bet on it? After all, if you think you're so good that you can just steamroll me, a little bet shouldn't be too much, should it?" Weiss asked with an angelic look on her face.
Ruby let out a chuckle at that. "Weiss, have you forgotten about the last bet we made? Particularly if we're keeping the same stakes," Ruby said as she waggled her eyebrows suggestively.
Weiss' face suddenly resembled the color of a stop sign after remembering their last bet. "No, I don't think we'll keep the same stakes as last time. Last time was…special. How about the loser has to carry the winner's books around for the next week as well as get them food in the cafeteria?" Weiss suggested.
"That sounds fair. I hope you enjoy carrying all my stuff around next week Weiss," Ruby said with a wink.
We'll see about THAT one Ruby," Weiss countered.
They popped the game into the system and took up their respective controllers. Ruby was a bit surprised when Weiss opted for the Gamecube controller since it was a bit more difficult to use than the standard Wii-mote. Ruby went with her favorite combo of the Wii-mote with the nun chuck. They had already decided on a stage with no gimmicks, Final Destination, and no items for their fight to make things as fair as possible. Ruby decided to go with her favorite, Lucario, while Weiss countered with Ike. The match began and Weiss proceeded to lay her trap for Ruby.
It started off simple, both Ruby and Weiss getting a feel for the each other's style. Weiss made sure to keep her skills apparently lacking, but enough to not get blasted off with ease. Ruby started off the match a bit nervous, but quickly got into her rhythm, having become a master at using Lucario in both long range and close range battles. She quickly comboed Weiss with a grab and finished her with a spike to take her first stock.
"1 stock down and 2 to go, Weiss. You better pick it up, or I'll have next week off from having to carry my stuff around," Ruby said.
Weiss said nothing and simply focused on setting her strategy up. She began to play Ruby a little bit harder, but it was nothing Ruby couldn't handle with ease. Suddenly, Weiss let herself get caught open and Ruby smashed her off the stage again, making Ruby smile more.
"Jeez Weiss, are you even trying?! At least take ONE stock off me!" Ruby gloated.
Weiss smiled, and unleashed her full skill. She sat up straight, and proceeded to turn the tables on Ruby with combos that Ruby didn't even know were POSSIBLE. In no time, Ruby had lost her first stock, without even having touched Weiss. Ruby was immediately wary and put on the defensive. She knew that Ike wasn't a very long range character, so she attempted to turn the battle into a long range affair.
Weiss was having none of this however. She closed the distance to Lucario, and caught him in another grab combo and threw him off the stage. As Ruby attempted to recover to the edge, she ended up getting hit by Ike's smash and blasted off the stage.
"What was that about me not being able to keep up with you?" Weiss taunted.
"This isn't over yet, Ice Queen!" Ruby yelled. Weiss just smirked at that.
Ruby was, well, pissed. She already realized that Weiss had played her like a violin, and that she probably was going to lose this bet after acting so smug. However, Ruby knew she couldn't give up; Ike had already taken a bit of damage from their last furious round before Lucario was blasted off the stage. If she could get in one good smash, she could win this fight.
Weiss, on the other hand, was ecstatic. She knew she had Ruby on the ropes, and she was going to press her advantage. Ike was overpowering, and while Lucario might have the speed, all it would take is Ruby being careless for one second, and she would lose.
Lucario landed on the stage, and the final round commenced. Ruby entered into a furious combo that slowly began to hit Weiss more and more as Lucario knocked Ike around the stage. For a minute, it looked like Ruby had seized the momentum and would win.
That moment came crashing down when Weiss used Ike's counter and knocked Lucario back. Weiss immediately went on the offensive, battering Lucario about the stage with Ike's significantly powerful attacks.
Ruby managed to right the ship momentarily, but she knew she was done for once Lucario slipped (A/N: worst mechanic ever) and slid right into Ike's forward smash. Lucario went flying, and Weiss won the match.
Weiss was ecstatic, pumping a fist into the air in a clear sign of victory. "YES! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! You mess with the champ, YOU GET BEAT DOWN!" she yelled at Ruby.
Ruby sat there, with an awestruck look on her face, completely confused with what had just happened. She had been up 3 stocks to 1 stock, and somehow LOST. How did that even happen?!
"Weiss, how the heck did you do that?!" Ruby asked, still shell shocked by what she'd just had happen to her.
Weiss' smug look vanished when she looked at Ruby, a sheepish grin replacing her smug smirk.
"Believe it or not, I'm actually a huge Smash fan. My sister and I used to play it together all the time when we were younger. My father actually was happy about it. He said it taught us how to think on our feet and adjust in the middle of a fight as well as working on our reflexes, believe it or not," Weiss told her.
But, that doesn't explain how you got so GOOD. I've seen some people who are good, but I've never seen ANYBODY do that!" Ruby said.
Weiss sighed, "There were a couple of guys on the staff at my house who were also huge Smash players. And they were good, REALLY good. Like go-out-and-win-tournaments good. So, I asked them for some help, and after a few months of playing against them, I got good too. Good enough to even beat them after a while."
Ruby looked at her girlfriend, eyes bright with wonder. She knew a lot about Weiss; that came with the territory of being partners as well as being in a relationship. But she NEVER would've pegged Weiss to be so good at Smash.
"Well, I guess you won the bet then Weiss," Ruby said with a bit of a pout.
Weiss just smiled and leaned in to give Ruby a kiss on the cheek before she walked towards door. "I guess I did. Enjoy carrying my stuff all week. Maybe this will teach you not to challenge the best, you dunce," She said as she stuck her tongue out at Ruby.
"UGH, remind me why I put up with you again?" Ruby asked as Weiss opened the door.
"Hmm, it must be my charming personality and flawless good looks," Weiss said with a giggle. As she stepped out the door, she heard Ruby giggling as well.
A/N: So, that was a thing. I can't tell if I have a knack for this or not, but I'm relatively happy with how this turned out. I used Brawl because I'm not as familiar with the characters or mechanics in Smash 4, and I know Lucario and Ike VERY well in Brawl, since they're both my mains. That being said, I'm pretty sure both Ruby and Weiss could mop the floor with me in Brawl.
