Lalalalalala...? Oh, hi! -grins- This is a story that was actually based on a dream that I had. Weird, huh? Well, anyway my pairings are BB/Rae. I might put in some Rob/Star, but most likely not. Please don't ask me to change them or get mad because you don't like them. -hides from flames-
(And yes, I know I'm crazy and partially insane. Oh well. I hope you like the story! -evil smile- )
Disclaimer: I don't own the teen titans, but it's my dream! Mine I tell you! -hiss-
Dedication: To everyone! -smile-
Edit:
Clearly, it's been years since I had even attempted to write, but I was doing some reminiscing and I went back to read this fic that I never quite finished. Granted, I was way young when I first wrote it, but I couldn't help cringe. My perfectionist in me screamed to fix it, so, I'm doing some massive editing, tweaking and finishing. I'm about 8 years late, but hey so was Raven ;) Enjoy.
Chapter 1
Raven fell to the ground, defeated. Her clothes were coved in a gruesome mixture of blood and dirt, rain poured down around her. Cries of horror and pain filled the air as the whole city was plunged into darkness. They had been beaten. The Teen Titans were finally beaten.
"Rae!" Raven looked up painfully as the green changeling ran towards her, a look of pain plastered across his face. He dropped down on the ground and wrapped his hands around her shoulders, pulling her into his arms. "Rae! It's alright, I'm here. I've got you."
"No! It's not alright. Nothing is alright, Beast Boy." Raven looked up at the tower, burning and crumbling to the ground. She felt sadness and anguish rising inside of her. They were all dead. Her friends, everyone she had loved. All she wanted was to curl up and die.
"No, Raven. It doesn't have to be this way!" He was shaking, tightening his hold on her as if afraid of what she would say next. Raven could feel her heart tighten. There was no room for him anymore. He was a reminder of what she once had. And what she could've had. She looked up into his eyes, those incredible bright green eyes.
"I'm sorry, Beast Boy. I have to go." She stumbled, trying to stand. Trying to find some way to get as far away from this city as possible. He grabbed her hands to help her up. As she leaned into him for balance, she could his heartbeat pounding in his chest. What would it be like to never feel him again? She couldn't think about it. His arms dropped around her waist, tightening, refusing to let go.
"No Raven, please. Please don't leave. We're all that's left. We need each other." She could feel his words burn in her heart. She did need him. She always needed him. But looking up at him now, all she could feel was the pain of loss. What she also needed was to not feel broken. She needed a fresh start.
"Can't you see, Beast Boy? The Teen Titans are over. Everything is over and nothing can stop that now. " But his arms didn't budge. She could sense his defiance, his stubbornness, willing her to stay.
"I won't let you leave. I won't let go."
"You don't have choice." With as much energy as she had left, she let go. Black energy surrounded her body, forcing his away. She could feel him fighting, trying to push back against her power. But they both knew it was useless.
"Please Raven, you don't have to do this! Raven!" His shouts became more and more frantic. Her eyes met with his. Both were filled with the sadness and regret. She would always remember those bright green eyes. They were like no others. The perfect shade, always showing his true feelings. But never again. Never again would she be a part of his life. A soft tear fell down her face.
"I'm sorry." With a flick of her mind, Raven's power came down on him, engulfing his body. She could feel his consciousness slip away. As second later, it was over. He slumped to the ground, unable to move.
Turning away, Raven slowly started to walk. She turned her back on everything she once knew and loved. She turned her back on him. The only one left that she truly cared about anymore.
"Goodbye, Beast Boy." She whispered walking away into the darkness. "Goodbye forever."
8 years later
Raven's head flew out from her pillow, cries still echoed in her head. She looked around panic stricken, only to find herself sitting in her bed, her sheets covered in sweat. She was not outside Titan's Tower; she was alone in her room. And Beast Boy was gone. Her heart ached with a gentle throbbing that always followed memories of him. You'd think that after eight years, the pain of that loss would've ebbed, but she could still feel it. With a sigh, Raven got up and walked into the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea. She needed to calm down. It hadn't been the first time she had had this nightmare. Always the same thing and yet...always so haunting. His voice, filled with sorrow and his eyes. Those eyes that gave her chills. She had spent years trying to shake the image of those eyes from her mind.
Suddenly, the phone ran, bringing her back to the present. She always hated that damn thing. It always filled her with a sick longing that Beast Boy might be the one on the other line. She couldn't help but pray that maybe he had found her. That he had been searching for her. It was false hope really. She was the one who left. She was the one who was too hurt, too frightened to stay.
"Hello?" She said anxiously picking up the dark, old-fashioned receiver.
"Hey Rae, how's it going? Feel like grabbing a bite?" Raven sighed; it was only Steven. They had met outside a small Irish pub late January, about a year back. Raven, who was sufficiently hammered, had caused a large amount of havoc throughout her night, ending when the bar tender got a bottle of Jose Cuervo smashed over his head. Steven had come to her aid, taking her home, and letting her sleep on his couch until she recovered from her massive hangouver. They had been friends ever since.
"Hi Steven. I'm fine. Thank you for the offer, but I think I'm going to stay at home today. I don't feel like dealing with people." It was silly to think that Beast Boy would try to find her. For all she knew, he could be dead. Raven felt her stomach lurch at the image of the Changelings dead corpse lying on the ground.
"Ha ha, you never feel like dealing with people. Besides, Rae, it's time for you to get out. You've been in your apartment for days." Shaking Beast Boy's image from her mind, Raven turned her attention back to her friend. Steven sounded concerned. She hated when he did that to her, making her feel guilty. Didn't he know she was a recluse? Staying in her apartment for days is what she did.
"How 'bout we go have lunch at that new place down by the park? Come on, am I really such horrible company that you won't even grab lunch?"
"Yes."
"And that's why I love you, always so honest. Meet me at noon?"
"I'm not going"
"So noon it is! I will see you there."
"Steven!" …click!
Raven slumped down on to her couch and sighed. He always did this, forcing her out of her apartment and into the real world. Deep down, she knew it was good for her, but it didn't mean that she liked it.
As expected, at a quarter past noon, Raven was walking in the park with Steven, chowing down on the gyro she just bought. Her day had improved slightly. They were talking about some books that they had recently both read and she was thoroughly enjoying her gyro. Who knew they were so delicious? She was about to take another bite when a young man ran by, knocking Raven's food to the ground.
"Hey!" Raven exclaimed as her precious pita bread and company splattered the concrete. "Watch where you're going!"
"Shit, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there!" He called back to them, turning around for a second to acknowledge whose lunch he had just ruined. As the guy turned around to look at them, Raven eyes met his and her heart felt a jolt. His eyes were the perfect shade bright green. They held hers for a second before the man turned to dash off again.
"Damn, that sucks about your food, Rae… Rae?" But Raven wasn't listening. She was standing still shell shocked, starring after the stranger. She had seen other men green eyes over the years. Plenty of people have them. But none like those. Those eyes looked so familiar. Those eyes are why her stomach was now a tangled mess of knots. She knew she shouldn't have left the apartment today.
"You ok?" Steven put his hand on her shoulder gently, snapping Raven out of her thoughts. She turned back to her friend, her eyes watering slightly.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just think that maybe I should go home now. Thanks for lunch, Steven." And without another word, she turned and walked away, back towards her apartment, her mind muddled with thoughts.
Had the young man she had just seen been Beast Boy? Of course not, he looked nothing like Beast Boy. But those eyes; he had those beautiful, entrancing eyes. It was her stupid dream, weaving its way into her mind. She couldn't shake it; the memory of him, the guilt she had for leaving him.
"I was eight years ago, Raven! Eight goddamn years! Get a hold of yourself!" She muttered to herself angrily. But still, those annoying questions kept running through her head. What if he was still alive? What if he was close by? What if they had a chance?
No matter what she did, no matter where she went, she couldn't get him out of her mind.
