Made of Glass
There was a glass girl
Who lived in a glass house
With her three glass brothers
And her fuzzy glass mouse.
They rarely did smile
Always seeming distraught.
So fragile they were,
Or so the neighbors thought.
Their parents had gone
Leaving without any direction.
For their children so polished
There was no more connection.
But every now and then
The neighbors swore they'd hear
The little glass girl's laugh
And her brothers' chuckles clear.
The little girl so loved
To hear peoples screams
And her brothers loved her laugh
They'd do anything to see her gleam.
So people they would bring
For their little glass girls play
She'd pull their insides out
And roll them on a tray.
And when time came to eat
Her glass mouse helped her cook
Nothing would she waste
For that's what made soup good.
No matter how they screamed
The neighbors wouldn't hear
The little glass girls play things
As she cut their toes and ears.
And never did they catch them,
These children made of glass,
For they weren't trying to hide it,
This game of death and aghast.
Their laughter always rose
Above their victims screams
So all anyone ever heard
Were their sounds of glee.
But one day in the eve
A candle so did tip
And all the house went up in flames
Like no glass house ever did.
And inside the children were
Watching all the flames
As they crawled on their skin
And lightly hissed their names.
The children stood and smiled so sweet
And the glass girl began to laugh
"Mommy and Daddy!" they all renounced
Their parents were home at last.
So they let their flesh melt
And their glass eyes grow dim
As they fell down together
No expression showed grim.
All that was found
The day after that
Was dancing glass flames
And children forever entrapped.
