It should not have attacked the Tamerainian. It understood that now, but it had been studying the dominant creatures of this planet for a hundred planetary rotations and it recognized her as being alien to this world. A contaminate. And all contaminates must be removed before they disrupt the natural development of this world's civilization. It should have realized the unusual natives she was with would come to her aide.
It was no match for these five warriors. It was an observation drone and a basic one at that. It was just supposed to observe the development of these creatures, not engage them in battle. It could use its molecular mimicry to hide and defend itself, but it wasn't programmed for heavy combat. The longer it fought the greater the risk to its data. So it fled the battle as soon as it could by liquefying and entering the drainage system. Now, four of the five warriors were hunting it. Further observation would risk the information it already had. Escape was the only option its programming would accept.
It had to get back to its pod at all cost. The Central Consciousness must be informed about the unfortunate status of this world's creatures. They had been contaminated by outside influences and were no longer viable subjects for natural development studies. Perhaps the next primitive world would provide the information on the development of space faring civilization that the Central Consciousness needed.
