Severus Snape stared out the window. He stood in the corridor that gave anyone in it a perfect view of the lake. He had been standing there for quite some time; his eyes never moving from where they gazed. Outside the window, two figures (a girl and a boy) sat by the lake. While their backs were turned so that one could not see their faces, one could still recognize them because of the boy's unmistakable black messy hair and the girl's long, dark, red hair. The boy was James Potter and the girl was Lily Evans. Severus didn't know how long he stood there, just staring.

When he'd accidentally called Lily that horrible word, his heart had been broken. Now, seeing her with Potter,it was only worse. Why did she choose him? Why must he be miserable? He only wished that there was something, anything that he had over Potter. Something that would make him just as miserable.

While their backs were turned so that one could not see their faces, one could still recognize them because of the boy's unmistakable black messy hair and the girl's long, fiery red hair. The boy was Harry Potter and the girl was Ginny Weasley. Severus didn't know how long he stood there, just staring.

When Lily and James had gotten happily married, his heart had been broken. Now, seeing how their son was equally as happy, it was only worse. Why was everyone else happy? Why must he be miserable? He was only glad that he could still give Potter detention to take away from his time with Ginny. It was something that almost made him half as miserable.
