Based on Little Red Riding Hood, I started writing it in 2007 for a poetry slam and only finished it a few months ago, any constructive critism would be very welcome :)

I was wandering through the woods one day

When a big wolf came and passed my way

He said 'Who you takin' that big cake to?'

I said 'To my granny, she's down with the flu.'

He said 'Why don't we race there – me against you?'

I said 'Yeah, why not? I've got nothing to lose.'

He said 'One, two, three!' was off quick as can be.

Me? I glanced a strawberry, thought I'd pick two or three

I also gathered wildflowers, their scent as sweet as sweet

Then I remembered granny and got swiftly to my feet.

I ran through bushes and lost a slide

I skipped through rushes by the riverside.

Finally I got to granny's home

In my voice was an excited tone.

'Hey, grannyma! It's Red Riding Hood!'

I shouted to the door where I was stood.

'Come in, dear, the door's not locked,

Mind you don't trip over the grandfather clock.'

The clock was lying on the floor

Very broken by the door

I stepped around the clock, further into the place

'Granny, what on earth's THAT on your face!'

'Dear, that's just my nose, okay?'

'But, it's huge and it's furry and why is it grey?

Not to mention your eyes, they're massive, too!'

'But how else would I be able to see you?'

'Okay gran but that doesn't explain

Why your teeth are so pointed, your smile insane.

You look like the cat that has gotten the cream-'

'Or perhaps the wolfy whose getting his dream?'

From this I realised my grandma was gone

I turned on my heel and started to run

But the wolf, he was faster and at the very first chance

He gathered his almighty strength and pounced!

I was dead! My life flashed before my eyes.

I stood there and waited for my demise.

I stood still a while, my eyes shut tight

Wondering when I'd feel that big bad bite

I jumped when a hand came down on my arm

'Hey, little girl, it's alright, just be calm.'

The wolf was dead by the woodchopper's axe

My grandma crawled out and we all could relax.

This is where people like to pretend

That this story came to end

But my grandma shows no mercy

When anyone tries to hurt her family

So she sewed that wolf together

(With wool from a half-knit sweater)

But she filled him with rocks and pebbles first

So that when he went to quench his thirst

He overbalanced – tripped and fell

Right into a deep dark well!

And the moral of this story grim?

Make sure you learn how to swim!
