Katniss was sick.
The war had just begun
and she was sick!
Peeta was back. Everyone was happy for that. Except maybe Gale. And her.
He wasn't the same as before.
On the outside she always made it look that she hated the games more than she hated anything, except maybe Snow.
And true it was yeah.
The Games had changed her life.
But not just in the worst way.
She would never have known Peeta in the same way that she did now, and believe it or not, she loved Haymitch.
He was a jerk, a idiot, a drunk one. But without him she wouldn't have survived, and even though he was gone most of the time, he was the only one around who understand her. He didn't fill her father's empty spot, but he meant a lot to her.
After all, he was the one who saved her from the first game, saved her after that, and later he saved life again.
Without him she wouldn't survive.
Peeta and Haymitch. The two things that secretely made her happy for being in the games.
But then of course. If she'd never been in The Games non of this would have happened. No one would die because of her Mockingjay pin and some berries, two symbols of something so big. Something life changing.
All the thinking made her so tired, and even though she didn't want to fall asleep she had to. What would it matter? Sleeping under the ground scared her, and she always thought she would die when she fell asleep. But Coin or Snow would kill her soon anyway, so dying this way wouldn't hurt so much. She saw her medicinal drug and felt very tempted in taking and and just disappearing from the world, forever.
But then she thought of Rue, and Prim. She had promised them both to win. They meant The Games, but the world was different now.
She took her sleeping pills and fell asleep immediately.
Peeta was still sleeping. Outside the cave it rained heavily but she had had lit a fire so he wouldn't freeze. She was very focused on store the food so it would work to eat for long. Haymitch hadn't sent anything to them for several days and the food there wasn't so much food left.
She was so focused she didn't notice Peeta snuck up behind her and took his arms around her. In her ear he whispered something that made her blush.
She turned around and he kissed her. In the corner of her eyes she could see one of the flying half invisible cameras settle down right outside their cave.
"Who's turn is it to tell a story?" she asked him and tried to look as much as in love as possibly. It was actually a lot easier than usually. She wondered why.
"I think it's mine." he answered calmly and kissed her on her hair.
"Please tell me the story about the cheese buns again. It's my favourtite!" she said joyful and kissed him on the cheek.
She looked out in the sky. She didn't know how but she was hundred percent sure that she'd seen right.
She saw a face, and not the face of just anyone.
It was the face of Gale,
and he looked heartbroken.
