that which never was
Chapter 1
That which should not have been nor happened.
And the trigger of events that set off a different story but not this one.
This is the story of a man named Steven.
Most importantly though, this is a story about a man named Steven that never happened.
In the course of events that lead up to what could have been this story, several unfortunate, yet avoidable actions were set in motion that led up to the story that did happen.
Alas this is the story of what didn't happen but could have.
To clarify and dismiss any confusion beforehand we will discuss what should not have happened and what should not have been.
If Steven had been a little more careful and less easily distracted he would have prevented what could be considered for all intents and purposes his own paradoxial death. Of course that would require Steven to be a little less Steven.
This in itself could have been called a paradox but since this contributes nothing to the story and instead contributes to the readers' confusion, this seemingly and possibly unimportant piece of information will be intentionally ignored here after.
If Steven had not purchased the mouse that would trigger his demise then this story also might not have happened.
In the same sense it might have had occurred and whether or not this story would have happened with or without the mouse is uncertain as this is the story that never was. The buying of the mouse however was unavoidable as Steven was at that point in time not the man who had been one to spend more money than was necessary on things he could have obtained for less.
The one object that sits the most guilty of the ending of this story before it even began is a simple button that resided on a complicated machine. Whether it was truly the buttons fault or if it bore the accusations of the machine that allowed it to happen is a mystery. The only one who knows whether it the fault of the one that gave the order or the one that followed the order was the victim of the accident and thus we cannot ask and get an answer that is not hypothetical in nature.
So being that all the witnesses to the changing of what could have and what should have been have been charged with the undoing and reversing of the two.
It is time to start the story.
The story that never was.
A/N: This has also been posted on dA. If you come across it there, I am in fact the person who wrote both of them. Chapter 2 is in the works. I do not update frequently.
