To Count the Stars

How many stars are there in the sky?

Hey, seaweed head, how many stars are there in the sky?

One night, that dumb rabbit had asked him that question. And, to tell the truth, he had been at a loss for word for quite a few minutes afterwards. It had not seemed like a question that she would ask, particularly not to him. Why she had not asked someone closer to her, of that he would never be certain.

"I- I don't know," responded Gilbert, after a long pause.

"Well then, how many stars can we see from here?"

Another pause, and then, "Look, why don't you just count them yourself?"

"Because…" now it was Alice's turn to be unsure of her words, "There are way too many for just one person- or- or chain to count!"

After a quiet and resigned sigh Gilbert agreed to help Alice count the stars. Together they looked up into the night sky.

"One, two, three, four…"

"Wait a moment, you missed one there!"

"Well, then, FIVE, six, seven…."

"Eight, nine…"

"Stupid rabbit, can you not see that one?"

"Right then, ten…"

"Ugh, just let me take over. Eleven, twelve…"

Soon the two were caught up in counting the stars, sometimes even shoving the other out of the way in a desperate act to point out what the other missed. And it almost could have been considered friendly. For indeed, it did not seem to hold any anger or hostility.

As their count reached into the 100s, Gilbert paused for a moment.

What in the world? I'm having fun with the stupid rabbit?

Alice stopped counting and turned to look at him.

"Seaweed head, we aren't done counting yet!"

"I-I know," he muttered quietly.

"Well, it's your turn."

"103, 104…."

Soon they were led to believe they had counted all the visible stars from the balcony.

"Hey, Gilbert?"

She just called me… by my real name?

"What?"

"You know, that was actually kind of fun."

"Yeah, I- I guess it was."

Hello People of all ages who read this. I think my ending was a little bit cheesy, but this was really fun to write. This was completely a question I could hear Alice asking, and I wanted to do some sort of Alice X Gil fanfiction (I like to call it PastShipping, I don't know if there's an official name though). This will be (I do believe) the first Pandora Hearts fanfiction I have the courage to put online. So, I hope you enjoyed it. Also, I am working on a longer story with this couple, if you think I should finish it and post it on here then review and tell me so!
