Prologue
'Ugh… my head' Spider-Man said recovering from the burning warehouse. Have to find him Spider-Man thought. That haunting laugh was still in his head. THWIP! Spider-Man web zipped through one of the broken windows of the warehouse. Once out Spider-Man saw a gliding object. There he is. Spider-Man furiously swung hoping to catch up. Spider-Man screamed curse words. This got the Goblins attention. The Green Goblin turned around showing his evil demonic eyes and threw 2 pumpkin bombs. The webhead managed to dodge both explosions mid-air. Despite Spider-Man's heavy fatigue and damaged limbs, his rage managed to give him the last bit of adrenaline to connect a web to the Goblin's chest and pulled himself close enough to land a deafening blow. His fist connected with the Goblins jaw. The connection was devastating. He heard cracks and it satisfied him. The force of the punch knocked the Goblin off his glider sending him into a free fall. Spider-Man let him fall. The Green Goblin would survive the fall. Barely that is. Spider-Man landed near the body in his trademark crouching position. The mask covering his face was cracked.
'I should kill you for all that you've done' Spider-Man shouted.
'HAHAHAHA I DARE YOU BOY' The Green Goblin said hysterically.
'All the lives you've taken…Uncle-'
'Oh boo hoo this city deserves it'
'How dare you' Spider-Man said at the edge.
'With great power, comes great responsibility remember that kid' he heard his Uncle Ben say behind him. He even felt a hand go on his shoulder. He looked back knowing he wasn't there. 'This could've been worse' he said. Spider-Man heard sirens coming from behind and knew that was his cue to leave.
This just in the Battle of New York has ended with Spider-Man himself defeating the Green Goblin who has not been identified. The New-York Police Department have confirmed that the SHIELD has taken him into custody. He has now been taken into custody. It is also widely speculated there have been over 200 fatalities and 300 injured by the bombings throughout Manhattan. One of the deaths includes Ben Parker the captain of the police force.
Peter didn't return home the night of his uncle's death. The bombs planted by the Green Goblin devastated large parts of New-York. It was Spider-Mans job to rescue any remaining survivors. His limbs ached as he pulled bodies from under the rubble of what was left of an apartment building. Some were alive and some were dead. The faces haunted him till this day. The next 2 days were blurred. Probably due to the sleep deprivation, Peter thought. He patrolled New-York in his damaged costume. There was a crack in the right lense of his red mask which was caused by the explosion of a pumpkin bomb. It was around 9 PM when it started raining. He sat on the roof of a building near Queens. He held his mask in his hands and saw his reflection in a puddle at his feet. Peters curly brown hair stuck to his scalp nearly covering his eyes. Peter right eye was bruised and his mouth bled. He was a mess. It was time to go home. Aunt May must be a mess. The sudden realization of how selfish Peters actions hit him like a train. How could he leave the woman who raised him to grieve her husband's death alone? Peter put his mask back on and jumped off the building firing a web line towards a nearby building. The rain soaked his costume and his backpack which made the trip back to his home in Queens very uncomfortable. He landed a block away from his house. He could see the lights still on. A cop car was outside too. Peter swapped his soaking costume for a damp grey shirt and jeans. He limped his way towards the house he'd lived in since he was 6. Peter stood at the front door for a couple of seconds. He could feel the urge to break down bubbling up. He opened the door to reveal his Aunt May and two other unfamiliar figures.
'Hey, Aunt May' Peter croaked out. He felt tears building up in his eyes. He tried his best to push them down.
'Oh my god, Peter' Aunt May got off her stool and ran towards her nephew. Aunt May was at the ripe age of 52. Her hair was finally starting to grey but it almost complimented her pretty face and petite features. The small women rugby tackled Peter. Peters emotions exploded at this moment as he cried in her arms.
'Aunt May…' Peter tried his best to let out a word but his mouth just wouldn't correspond.
'Oh you silly boy, I've been worried sick' She held Peters bruised face and kissed his forehead. The tears that fell down the cheeks of what was left of the Parker family.
Aunt May introduced Peter to the 2 other people in the house. It was non-other than Uncle Bens good friend, George Stacy and his daughter, Gwen Stacy. Peter and Gwen used to play together as children. When Gwen's mother died George and Gwen moved upstate to Chicago. Turns out Uncle Ben wanted his best friend to succeed him when he retired. Peters heart ached as the thought passed.
Gwen hugged Peter. She had striking blue eyes and her hair fell down to her shoulders. She looked like an angel he thought. Peter couldn't help but be embarrassed by his bruised face. Peter also shook the hand of the new Captain of the New-York Police Department. The 4 of them sat down in the lounge.
'Peter, what happened to you?' It was George who asked this time. His face had aged a lot since he last saw him. It made him wonder what Uncle Ben went through being a cop for so many years.
'Uh I got caught in one of the blasts… then I heard what happened and I…' Peter drifted off. They all knew what he meant.
'Why were you out that late?' George carried on his small interrogation. Peter was quiet for a while. To say it out loud would make it real. Truth is the night the Green Goblin attacked New-York was also the night Peter fought with his Uncle sneaking out and fighting at school.
'Me and my Uncle we got into an argument… and I had to cool off' Peter said to him. George looked at Peter with intrigue. It looked like he was analyzing him. He must've known Peter was lying. George was obviously done with his interrogation as he quickly changed the subject. Aunt May sent Peter to go shower like a little boy. It was more embarrassing as Gwen laughed as he made his way upstairs.
Peter threw his bag into the room. As it hit the wall and landed, his mask fell out. He stared at it for a second. That spider bite a month ago has changed everything. It got him into his first fight and got him his first pay check. Things that showed irresponsibility with his new found power. It finally dawned on him. His Uncle raised him to believe what power meant and the responsibility behind it.
'I miss you, Uncle Ben. I finally understand what you tried to teach me. I wish I learned earlier. You wouldn't have gone looking for me and got caught in the bombing in Queens. I could never ask for a better father because I don't think anyone could be close to you. I now know that with 'Great power must come great responsibility'. I am Spider-Man now and I will make you proud, Uncle Ben.
Authors Note: So there it is. The start to my first fanfiction. I plan on uploading the first real chapter tomorrow. So keep a heads up. I have lots of plans for this story. I didn't bother starting right from the beginning because everyone knows how Spider-Man gets his powers and blablabla. I felt I could some up how he became Spider-Man in a more concise and less boring way. Hope you enjoyed, True Believer!
